No - but I've got an engine hoist and I'm hiring a flatbed trailer

That's one of the apprentice training exercises, very satisfying when it fits!sladey wrote:Forgot to post it but last week-end I cut an accurate morse MT3 taper - was well chuffed

Heavy thing, but oh so nice!
It will make your current lathe seem like a toy.
Wise purchase.
not sure a normal engine hoist will be strong enough?

What he said, they are VERY top heavy, and once leaning will not be stoppable. I witnessed a Colchester Triumph (The same design but bigger) being crow barred into its final resting place and over it went, a F**king big bang as it landed on its handles, punching them cleanly into a concrete floor. Crosslide screw bent and much other damage rendering it effectively scrap, but very lucky not to cause serious injury.
Please be very careful and lift from above.
A Student is a great machine, and i made the crankshaft for Wasp, my racing GN on one just like that. Good luck. W

I didn't realise you owned Wasp Winston - I've admired your car many times!
I was hunting for a clarke Cl500 when I came across your eBay ad Mark. I might be putting a bid as you aren't too far away from me!

Re: Machining wi' Sladey
Thanks for the comments guys. There is a threaded hole in the top to take a lifting eye and the seller has one (lifting eye). The engine hoist is rated to 2000Kg and the lathe weighs 650Kg. I appreciate it will be top-heavy but I'll be strapping it down and driving carefully. All moving will be done by means of the engine hoist. Ian's coming with me to remind me not to drive fast.
Stuart, I'm expecting to clear over £600 from the Clarke. If that's more than you want to pay that's fine - but if you were OK with £600 I'd be happy to end it early. As an added factor I'm now picking up the Colchester on Friday evening from Castleford. If that fitted in I could probably deliver the Clarke to you on the same journey (depending on location etc). PM me if interested
Cheers

Here's the tapered piece I cut in the endstock - I cut a groove in it so I can lever it out easily like so
It's for a two part die holder which I've made from one of my old torsion bars

Re: Machining wi' Sladey
Nice job, and a tricky thing to get right.
Most of the 'big' lathes have a morse collet 'ejector' by winding the tailstck right back and the end stop punches the taper out of the tailstock sleeve.
I think your new lathe will have this.
How do you find the room for all this stuff!

Machining wi' Sladey
It's will fit where the existing lathe currently sits - it's basically the size of the current lathe plus table. It's all in my shed which is 3mx5m
These arrived this morning - proper
