Good to see this progress!.
Thought of this thread when the E Type was getting a hard time recently on here.
Sexy machine, inside and out.

Did the factory use nickel plating that much?

I'll be doing the opposite but might bump into you, I'm going to the show Sat/Sun and collecting a shell from envirostrip on the 14th.

Thanks for the compliments guys, easy spend this much time on something when you truly enjoy it....

Tom, Chuck is to 911's what Barry is to 911's and probably more...his enthusiasm for the car is endless and his website used to be filled regularity with detailed stories of his restorations..these days it's more on facebook and his time is clearly limited as what was a 1 man show seems to have gently morphed into a thriving business...even with the pound/dollar rate the way it is his repair sections are great value and should help Barry ...the detailed restoration threads are definitely a great source for research and will be useful for Barry as the cill/floor/bulkhead junctions are all a new venture

As for the nickel plating, that's isn't factory spec....originally it was CAD plating...which I believe is still found in the aircraft industry...but due to hazardous materials and by products is limited in availability and certainly very expensive...

Zinc is just too bright and modern..so nickel with its warmer tones is a best match....I also think it is a better process...from what I have seen of modern zinc plating it lasts no time at all.....moreover ..I am also doing the project in assemblies so not cost effective to send away in small batches...and I am prepared to spend 5/10 minutes per screw or bolt, dipping, blasting, filing old burs off rounded edges and running them through a die all before plating...that would not be a standard platters service...so apart from the fact that I don't find it a chore it's the best solution for me without question

Next up this weekend is the trolley I need to make...:)....still not concluded about colour for the body.....

Best
Jonathan

"progress". Did someone mention progress and Mr jtparr in the same sentence.

Looking good Mr Parr, looking good. I will keep a close eye on this thread as I have said to you before, I am becoming quite partial to the E-Types.

Hey Mark
Well I did a deal with a nice man at the bank so I now have some cash...and come Christmas will have no other distractions to have to attend to for next year...!....so with the car at chez Carter I will have a half empty garage so I can build up the rear suspension and inspect the gearbox properly....there may be proper progress if I'm not too careful..;)

Interesting suggestions guys.....Black was always a strong possiblity with me liking black as you all know...it had been black since around 1980... so longer black than Cream (later called old English white) which is what it was originally...with a black interior

So I could do

cream/black...as I do have moments of thinking it should be orginal.....
Black/black

But latterly I have found myself liking a really dark grey, like Porsche slate grey...trouble is it's not a Jaguar colour...closely they did was battleship grey..

Coloured leather interiors are a possibility for me....there is a very deep orangy tan.....and suede green....that I like....and a cool mid dark grey.........but in an E Type there is a LOT of colour....that's what puts me off a bit.....

Decisions ...decisions....

Opalescent Gunmetal and red ...... supposed to be an original early etype colour http://www.barons-auctions.com/content/ ... 17&cid=751#

Or gunmetal and black http://www.eaglegb.com/135/jaguar-etype ... oupe-eag31

I quite like Silver Blue although I appreciate probably not your cup of tea (not manly enough ...) http://www.eaglegb.com/148/jaguar-etype ... pe-1e34015

Not so sure about the tan interior though ..... http://www.eaglegb.com/137/jaguar-etype ... le-upx516f

Decisions decisions. Choose wisely Dr Jones ........

From memory the E-Type displayed state V&A for the British Design exhibition was a metallic dark grey with a tan/ biscuit interior...it was amazing... the interior was such a good foil to the exterior tone and made the curves even better.....

It was 9600HP......

Have to agree with Andy but primrose yellow, black interior, silver painted wires....
Plump tyres and a full tank.
Rare colour today in an ocean of greys and silvers what ever the mix.
