Wise words Gary, I try to do each step as "right" as I can from an amateurs perspective so won't rush through as such. However, it might be that all the cosmetics might not be completely assembled for CLM. Failing that I can always take the 993.

A big (to me) milestone.

Got these phone snaps yesterday from the guy who was doing the body work which I felt my skills weren't up to, Setting the gaps required quite a lot of work especially around the engine lid where the rear wings had to be un-stiched and pressed apart, the front bumper and luggage lid required a whole lot of beating to minimize the use of filler, the passenger door frame has been repaired and a new skin fitted and passenger side jacking point replaced.

Car is now towed to the paint shop for paint prep, it will then be disassembled and painted with doors and lids off.

Engine lid should now be somewhat lighter after loosing close to 10 mm of filler in the middle, bumper too is a lot more stright.












Ideally I would have liked these slightly narrower but I suppose they close ever so slightly with the non-sanding and paint layers, I'm trying to tell myself that a lot of these cars looks rather untidy in this area, its a driver after all!

Time for an update
Painter sent this phone snap through a few days ago. Doors, lids and bumpers still to be painted as the paint booth just isn't large enough to do all in one go.

Looks great, and those gaps look fine to me.

I followed Darren's advice and finally went with solid 2-pack as I didn't want the paint to look too shiny and deep.

Felt pretty excited about that first photo so booked a flight home for next weekend. The thinking is that even if the doors won't be ready for assembly I can at least get started with fitting the headliner, or that's actually just an excuse to go see the car

Spent some time on the car this weekend, as usual I didn't get as far as hoped for

Wings prepped with Wurth Body Schutz and Seam sealer


Spent some time with a razor cutting away and re-applying seam seal which had been laid on the doors by the painter, also one of the doors and the luggage lid showed some uneven prep work so will be re-sprayed in the next coming weeks.

Found some time during the Christmas break and got stuck in
- Doors fitted, adjusted and built upp internally with glass and locks
- Engine lid fitted and adjusted
- Oil tank painted in epoxy and properly flushed before being fitted and connected up
- Rear bumpers fitted
- New roof liner fitted - turned out ok but can't say I enjoyed the process, took me a full day...
- New dash fitted, got to say I was pretty impressed with the fit and overall appearance, the grain structure etc. is spot on. Produced by a small Swedish company and way lower cost than other offerings which I could find.

I wish but it all depends on what work throws at me, ideally it'd be back on the road for Spa Classic in May but have a feeling I'm being too optimistic, it has happened once or twice before...
