Margaret, a few panic attacks! What on earth am I doing is the usual one going round my head. I have managed to keep my wife on side by telling her I am going to use an old private registration she used to have (and I have never got around to selling), said she can use the car to take the kids to school.

She now refers to it as her car and regularly asks when is it going to be ready?

Very little progress of late. Still on the look out for small things and trying to source blue carpet.

This was always on the list of things I had still to buy and the pictures of the recently restored car by Tech9 reminded me I needed to source an exhaust skirt. My car being a 1973 car was supplied with this as an option.

Scott at Canford had one in stock.

Went to see my car today, there has been little progress recently which is fine. However work has started again and its nice to see things moving on again, there is no hurry but I cant help thinking about how beautiful an early 911 really is.













I should have also said there was a black car in getting some work done, pain in the arse, struggling to get decent pictures with out it getting in the road.

My car is due to have lights fitted, windows and other external parts to check fit. The bodyshop are keen to have a dry fit and check all gaps, etc. This has involved me rummaging through all the parts that came with the car.

The problem I have now is that up to this point anything that needed replacing or sorting has been taken care off. The car is almost like new. Looking through my parts a lot of these are very tatty and not up to the std of the restoration.

No wonder restorations get out of hand.

One quick question, can anyone recommend a repo dash pad for 1973 RHD. My existing one is split in two places and really is past its best.

Hi Tom - I've been enjoying your thread again and I thought I needed a lot of new panels..

Looking at your headlamp bowls I'm not sure the rims are spaced correctly to allow for the seal. It could be the angle you've taken the images but I bought a new Porsche front wing for my car and Barry had to put it right. If you look at my thread 'chapter' 62 you'll see what I mean. Might be worth getting your guy to check before it gets near paint.

Aston, thanks for pointing that out. I remember you posting this and was surprised but had completely forgotten to check mine. In terms of the panels from Porsche, some of them need a bit of work, certainly once the car is complete there will be quite a bit to fill and smooth out.

Graeme, thanks for that. Quite a price. I will definitely have a go and repairing mine, if I don't feel happy with it then it will be better to sell with the cracks repaired and the dash back to black, its currently black with patches of grey.

i believe the main problem with the age of these tops if u want to do cracks without recovering is , as soon a u apply any heat to repair they basically disintegrate 'cos they re all dried up...............if u find out otherwise can i be 2 nd in the queue ?????

There should be another flurry of activity soon with the dry fit. Also started on the refurbishment of the suspension and brakes.

I should be able to find some pictures of the correct colour / set up but if anyone can post a link that would be helpful. The intention is to have everything powder coated and zinc coated where appropriate. The existing shocks are pretty well knackered, is the general concensus put back to original or is there a commonly agreed std that improves on the factory.

In terms of bushes, poly or std?

Very little progress on my car, during the process of dry fitting windows, lights, trims, etc I have found that I am missing quite a few parts.

One essential element are brakes, I don't have any calipers front or rear.

Is its best to stick with std fit or given that I have to replace everything is there a generally accepted upgrade?

I got some larger ones restored along with my originals to try them both.
From memory they were from a 3.2 carrera but not entirely sure.... Am sure someone on ddk can confirm
