The 'Maverick' Classic Porsche Forum and Classic Porsche Club for Porsche 356, Aircooled Porsche 911, Porsche 912, Porsche 914 & Porsche Replicas. 'We join for the cars but stay for the people'
I think the winner is Tim.
We had guesses of six years from Keith and 250 days from Tim.
Therefore Tim is nearest.
Tim, kindly PM me your address and I'll send you the fantastic prize.

Now, after all this debacle I will concede that I’m very pleased with the results. The dials look superb. The only sadness for me is that the backs of the cases were re-painted too. I guess many gauges have rusty cases so a thorough refurbishment refreshes those parts too. But in doing that they covered the inked date stamps which was a shame. Probably only geeks like us would see value in keeping those marks but to me a little bit of the history got washed away there. I would say – knowing what I know now – you try and request they don’t overpaint the cases. I’m sure they’d be happy to do that.
So - on the whole – I’m pleased. The price is probably not unreasonable for the work done, it’s just that it took rather a long time. In fairness it didn’t matter to me, the project wasn’t delayed because of these parts but if you need your gauges restored quicker I’d advise chasing on a regular basis. Or consider another company.
Overall, how do you think they did? Great service? Or not?

A few of the gauges (like the one pictured above) had punched date stamps so obviously that dating evidence survived. Sadly the ink stamps were lost. It's not really an issue as nobody will ever see the reverse.

I reckon that's about right BUT... under the circumstances they should have waived the TOTAL cost. By any standard that's a shameful level of service and based on your experience and that of plenty of other tales of woe, Speedy have truly earned their place in the Hall of Shame.
Mind you, the way you told the whole sorry story made me chuckle

It's a shame. I did send them off and fondly believed they'd be back promptly and I'd be refuting their bad reputation.
As it turned out I was writing a diary and had to keep adding to it for nearly a year.
I've been waiting a long time to recount the tale...
I would have been rather more understanding if they'd kept me informed along the way. However, nobody was anything but abrupt with me.
Just some friendly banter on the phone would have been nice. A cheery dialogue would have kept my frustration at bay.
I can't deny the end result is good. But a bit quicker would have been nice....

Sadly, I doubt I'd use them again.
Previous to this episode I couldn't understand why some folks send their gauges for restoration to Germany or the place where Californians make movies but now I have to concede it might be wise to ship overseas.
