Wow!! Impressive stuff

What parts of the original shell will be left?

Good question.

There was always going to be a sacrifice with this rebuild, as the shell was in very poor condition when I embarked on the project.

The essence of my goal was to keep as much of the original shell as possible but at the same time weigh up the economies of scale between repair and replacement.

My estimation is 50/50 with old to new, and as much originality as I possibly find, source, repair, engineer, fabricate. :?

More gearbox rebuild pictures, this time from MB Engineering. Sent all the gears up to Mike for replacement of synchromesh rings and dog teeth, these were completed in super quick time.

Thanks Mike

That is so much metal work, but great to 'witness'!

Love these threads, be pro built or DIY.

Keep it all coming. MB is great at boxes! (customer speaking)

Some real progress again this week to the body.

Rear seat pans in, roof off, rear parcel shelf almost in, plus some template taking from my SWB 912 for those small detail fabrications. (washer bottle bracket)

Recently it’s been a time consuming process readying the roof supports an associated pillars for the replacement roof. Hopefully it shouldn’t be too much longer before all the panels are fitted, leaded, and it’s making its way to a painter.

Some other balls I’ve been juggling apart from mechanical rebuilding, is the refurbishment of the front seats. Good old mums sewing skills being unutilized to remake the rotten hessian backs, while industrial rubber and superglue worked a treat to make new O rings. Oh and not forgetting the painstaking weaving of cut foam to reinforce saggy springs. I’ve also managed to source some equivalent horse hair padding for the internal seat pads which once repaired works really well.

Just catching up with some DDK reading: lovely work by Chestertons, and interesting to see their fabrication work as ever. Truly bar-raising stuff.

BTW Garry, were they using that flypress for those roof rail tools, or was it something a bit more hydraulic?
