Here's one of those longitudinal panels you saw earlier in the thread.

And some of what is being replaced....

Work being done on the torsion bar tubes.
If you look carefully you can just see another part of the car in the background.....

Can you guess what this is?

Thanks Graham, yes it's certainly from the ground up.
I doubt there's been a shell so thoroughly rebuilt, and I doubt anyone but Chesterton's could have tackled it.
I certainly recommend them.

Once the floor was set, the team at Chesterton's added the front slam panel and both inner wings.

You can't fail to be impressed by work of this calibre.
It's amazing what they have achieved in these pics already.
They are building a shell just like Porsche would have done back in the day.

I love this photograph.
For me it represented a turning point.
Until then I'd only felt despair, I didn't think the car could be restored.
At this moment I realised John Williams and his guys could bring it back to life.

Just look, it's incredible really....

The heater pipes and inner sills.

And the other side (with muffler re-installed).

And then enclosed by the middle section.

More quality work by Chesterton's around the rear crossmember and torsion tube.
Somewhat incredibly when the rear crossmember was removed from the old shell it was discovered Porsche hadn't done all their work in 1973. One side was missing some welds.
Quality control hadn't spotted that all those years ago.
Fortunately it had held for 40 years so no harm done.

This time it was thoroughly affixed.
All new metal, lovely and strong.
