Restored back to original Factory spec by Neil Bainbridge some years ago & virtually unused since:

Andy, is that badged as a 2.7 S ?


EDIT : just read the Bonhams write up : "It has the modest 911S badging and correct houndstooth front seats."

Note it has model year 72 light surrounds f&r which was correct (build date April or May 72 if I remember correctly).

Did these prototypes still have the forward oil tank of the 72 E series cars?

Yes they do. Here is the prototype at Christies in '06. Sold for $334K that day.

Interesting...............from your photos the car at the auction it has 72 front light surrounds and 73 rears. There also looks to be an early set of none rubber rear overriders. I must check the RS book for the picture of the prototype to see if that is consistent.
It also has a 300kph speedo in the photos which cannot be correct for this car.

Hi Mike,

The horn grilles and light surrounds are correct based on the photos from the RS book, but you are correct it should have a 250 Kph speedo and black rubber on chrome rear bumpers.

That picture of this car on the test track on page 61 is one my all time favorite photos in the book.

Oh, speaking of RS cars up for auction in Monterey. There is a nice looking Viper Green second series (858) up for sale at Russo Steele. I will staying just across the street from the auction site so I can check it out for you Steve while I'm there.

As you will have gathered I'm not well-up on auctions, though having a DDK'er on the spot assuages that somewhat! I think I need to witness one first to get a feel for what happens. Until then I think that ringing dealers and keeping up with websites is enough for me.

I do like that Viper Green though.....

I don't think that I'm in the league to front up for that number '2' though, even with the favourable exchange rate, I get the feeling that one will go interstellar!

Blimey what a dreadful picture.
Looks like the car is up on tip toes and the body is disconnected from the chassis and wheels. I reckon the vendors missus took that snap with her camera phone and sent it to Coys without telling him.

I'm with you Richard, I'm perplexed by this car It's as if the wrong photo's have been put on the file by Coy's.....It looks wrong, and the lovely signwriting....that could have been on years...
Surely not the way to present a first 500 car? Surely it has to be worth more than that estimate?
Am I missing something obvious........
