I want to see that colour scheme on your car, it does look good.

OK, I was hoping to have started properly by now but had to spend 2 weeks getting the daughters mini through an MOT first. I worked my nuts off getting it sorted, and to be fair she worked hard on it too. It was very enjoyable getting it sorted but very tiring. We replaced the rear subframe, front wheel bearings and balljoints, front calipers, and rear brake cylinders, as well as welding up a hole in the floor, welding up a broken captive nut and rust-treating everything in sight.
Once that was all done I now have something to drive each day but it's delayed my started on project sills.
Saturday I finally made a quiet start
First jacking the car up in accordance with excellent guidance from Barry and others (
http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewto ... it=jacking and
http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=28001)
Then a look at the two little holes that have prompted me to do this work now
Don't look too bad do they? Probably extend along a bit under the sealant but should be OK?
Nah - this is what appeared after a very short period of time
I was going to do the floor repair first and then do the sills separately, but on reflection I'll do it all together. I think I'll get a better idea of what fits where and stuff will be easier to get at (but on the other hand I'd be fitting each part up to a known good point) - opinions welcome
If you look through this part of the hole you can see a ridged section
Which I'm taking to be the main side-member (?) - hopefully I'm in time to avoid that having gone (but will be clearer as I get deeper) - it feels solid at the moment with surface rust. Looking at the floor it's rotted through in the bit between the sidemember and the sill - everything up to the sidemember (i.e. towards the middle of the car) looks good
After that digging I removed the passenger seat and all furnishings from around the area to be worked on.
And then last night I welded on a couple of support bars to keep it in the current shape.
I'll keep posting the pics as and when I do the work but don't expect ferryman style progress - I only welded those bars in last night; this Saturday is my wife's birthday and Sunday we're having a family meal. So this week-ends out really. Probably.

Crumbs Mark, don't take the stripes off, I think the vinyl is all that's holding the car together...
Hats off to you for tackling this, very brave. Looking forward to further updates.

Those photos remind me of Tim's Targa a few years ago. He then decided to re-shell it.
You got some new floors on order then?

My little ray of sunshine
I've already got the appropriate repair section in the shed.
It's a big shed.

Is it THE shed?
Got to admire you're bravery. Looks scary to me. Best of luck with it!

Go for it Mark, it will be no problem for you.
If you haven't already I would remove your ECU from the car whilst doing the work.
Cheers

Thanks Jon - I'll whip it out. I'd already disconnected the battery but I'll take that out as well.
And yes Jason it's THE shed - currently looking a bit like the early stages of ferrymans car

Looks scary but strip it back so you can see the scale of it and find good metal and it gets much easier.
Think of this side as practice for the other!
