Looking at the back revealed a couple of things

Firstly the indentations have a hole in them and are now a crud/rust trap. I therefore cut and ground them flat
Image

Secondly I could inspect the quality of my welding and specifically the level of penetration
Image

The first few patches had good penetration, the last two not so good. I was able to sort the problem out ok but also I was able to learn from it, by comparing the shape of the good welds versus the shape of the not so good ones. The good ones were flatter - that will be a big help going forward.

Now looking forward to the bigger job (and castle Hedingham before that!)

Thanks for reading

Once I've done this first round of work Ill have the passenger side in primer.

If its gone well then I may crack on and do the other side. If its dragged a bit ill put it back on the road for a few months before tackling the other side.

Either way once all that's done I'll be respraying it (and changing colour) - that'll probably be in the spring.

cheers

mark

I wouldn't worry - I don't think anyone will have any trouble recognising it

Mark,

When you are finished with your front wings, mix up some epoxy mastic and pour it in the trailing edge, great for rust proofing that vulnerable area.

Thanks for that Jon - you actually told me that in Germany and I haven't forgotten it - it's one of the best tips I've heard.

OK I've mention in a few places that I'll be changing my car's colour scheme. Chris Jury kindly agreed to mock it up so I thought I'd pop it up here

Very excited about the colours, which will include my signature ( ) Hot Rod lettering along the engine lid.

I'm planning on switching to chrome rear overriders and may go to chrome surrounded standard rear lamps but these last two changes may have to wait a year or so.
