The word is out there.
I've seen word of the auction of a number of forums (not all car ones) and the additional visitors it's bringing to the site is high, very high. Lots of guests viewing the forum via the links on eBay, Facebook etc. and lots of new account registrations being made. Hope the server holds out!

I think my £50K guesstimate might be on the low side!

Good news - I think it's fairly safe that the car won't be broken for parts!

The price is moving in increments of £5k so given the price action north of 100k wouldn't be a surprise. I suggest you move the deposit requirment up to 20-10% of the final price. It will better weed out any jokers.

Like we said in the first post at the start of this incredible journey,

"Life is full of surprises in the Porsche world",

We now find, at the eleventh hour, that the MFI pump on this engine could be incredibly rare. Many thanks to our American and German contacts for the information provided today.

What other surprises will this car throw up in it's detailed restoration?

Regards
Mike

James/Dave

It would appear to have prototype (Bosch) tags with numbers not listed in anyone's database. One of a small number of 'Versuch Pumpen' with date stamps which make it almost certainly original to the car and built especially for it. It does not have a 'type' tag mounted (and never has) which makes it different from the pumps for the model year cars to follow during production.

Yet another indication ( if any were needed) that this truly was a pre-production factory prototype test car.

I think the restoration of this car is going throw up so many fascinating details.

Regards
Mike

Confirmed within the last few minutes from Germany,

It is a pre-production series pump.

Mike

Preproduction chassis and a preproduction pump are a good fit. I wonder if it has S calipers that are also preproduction. The 908 caliper i recently sold was unlike any 908 or S caliper I have ever seen in many small details. With a car like this it would be very important to critically examine every part and look for differences against a standard part for the series. The LWB chassis, the suspension and brakes, and the MFI & fuel system were all new compared to 1968.
