Interestingly enough, it wasn't registered till 7th May 1973... I thought most of the first 500 were all signed up for at the show in '72? I would have thought unless this particular one went straight to racing, it would have been registered way before May the following year....??

Paul,

Thanks for sharing this info. With all the evidence in place I am certain the eBay RS is 0026 (probably built the same day as your car). The owner has refused my requests for confirmation of this and photos of the VIN stamping and plate. I can't quite understand the thought behind doing so and asking top money at the same time.

I agree that is rather curious there was such a long time span between production and first registration. Your thoughts are likely correct. :)

The reason people take/took the rubber sleeve off is to get a little more air into the engine , its said to close up at high revs and act like a restrictor .....so there!

I have the flapper box in place & managed 198bhp on Bobs rolling road ..... if it would make much of a difference removing it I could be looking at 200 bhp :)

Steve,

I am encourged to read you grasp the utmost importance of having the proper elastic cord in place to secure the door pocket for the those high speed corners at the track or the public roads.
Brian,

It is hard-wired into me now, and I will not forget it!

I will also stockpile it, so that my fellow DDK'ers won't never be caught without it! 8)

Thanks for this Brian, and also to Paul for checking. You aren't alone in your misgivings, Vic felt the same too....nearly discounted then, top money for no info is no joke!

Even though I don't know diddley about welding and stuff, I have to admit their unpainted floorpan looked a sight different to the Freisinger work on Paul's car!

Many thanks for the useful info.

Steve
I think you've now drawn your own conclusions :)

The flapper box has been removed on mine.
Correctly set up an RS engine should produce c. 220 bhp :)
Seems Porsche were being conservative with their published outputs.

I know quite a few running at that level :)

Now I've thought about it, my car ran at 198 without the airbox as Bob watson runs the cars 'open' ...

I need to issue a retraction. I just happen to look at the eBay Orange RS to look at the current price and the seller has listed the chassis as 0188 in an update yesterday.

Here is the quote.

"Ein Bieter hat mir die Info und Website-Adresse gegeben, wo für jeder die Nummern zugänglich sind....., also Chassis-Nummer ist 188. Was es bringt diese Nr. zu kennen, kann ich mir nicht vorstellen, aber damit werde ich weniger Mails die danach fragen erhalten und weniger beantworten müssen."

Paul are sure this car left the Factory in Nov. '72? The RS book lists the production of 0188 as Dec. '72.

I've not driven the car without the airbox so can't compare. It's pretty nippy though with peak power at 7190 rpm

Hi Brian,

I'll check the certificate's wording in the dictionary though it's the only date on there I can remember.... my German isn't too strong!

I guess as the show is normally end Sept / beginning October, it might be reasonable to expect public deliveries to start a few weeks later unless they started building right after the show?
I'm told 0024 was the 8th car off the line for delivery and on the first transporter out of the factory.

Daytona, RS, Dino, whatever European exotica you want to quote - they all look damned cheap compared to the $2m plus that the yanks are paying for premium muscle cars these days. Those things are tuned up lorries basically....

It's all relative as they say :bom: :bom:
