I'll be hitting the 1000mile mark in the red beetle tomorrow. Which means it will then officially be for sale as I'm now comfortable any snagging is done. In fact it's been faultless since mile one.

I had a friend come round today to show off his new sport Renault hatchback. Very nice it was too. But he went home with his tail between his legs after he couldn't keep up with me accelerating from a standing start in a little old stock looking 1965 Beetle. Hilarious. Electric is just too much fun 8)

Squirejo - you get it registered a CC exempt simply by changing the fuel type to electric with the DVLA on the logbook. Simples.

Excellent work there Moggy.
My wife wants that red Beetle! Her question, do they do them in automatic!!!!!
Hi Keith,

My understanding of electric cars is that they don't have gears part from forward and reverse.

I've driven the Performance version of the Tesla and it's amazing, maximum torque is there from the start and it doesn't let up 0-60 in 3.1 secs. No changing of gears just solid unremitting acceleration, I was very impressed. Even the handling was excellent as the centre of gravity is so low. The only downfall in my opinion is that although the interior finish was quite good it certainly wasn't up to the level of European luxury saloons and for knocking on to £80-100k I expected better.

As a matter of interest the Tesla model S outsold both Mercedes S Class and BMW 7 Series combined in the US last year, it's the way forward for general

It's great to see the Bug with a cool retro fitted electric motor. I hope it does well.

Cheers,
Paul

Love the idea :) we need a basic range of at least 150miles per charge as that's the average daily mileage for the family car ... As much as I ,over the i3 , the reality doesn't quite stack up yet. Exciting times ahead though

It really needs The BMW carbon technology (and build quality) coupled with the tesla electric drivetrain and charge capacity.. I guess once battery and charging tech catches up it will be a viable option for all :)

There some guys in the USA building some pretty wild EVs. Have a look at this Mustang. Also look at their website, there are very instructional videos, although I guess Moggy knows it already

I've been following these guys for a while now, they've just recently gone over 200mph. At least for me... electric is the future, I'm not going back now I've had the taste for the power electric can deliver. The red beetle now has 1500 miles on it and hasn't missed a single heartbeat, out powers most things on the road and is a dream to drive. The car I'm building now will surprise a few people that's for sure

Ferryman and I went up and spent the day with Moggy last week. I'm not sure when he gets a chance to do any work! The VW is a very capable car that certainly got us both thinking.

Indeed, and the irony of two people taking a Mustang and 911 all the way from Sussex to Wales to view an environmentally sound car isn't lost! :drunken: :drunken:

Yours for £35K. The market has to be London; no congestion charge, no road tax and costs just 2p per mile

Thanks Nick, it was a pleasure having you and Paul up for the day. Glad you enjoyed the car and our Welsh roads :) Sorry I couldn't have made the sun come out, maybe next time. Hopefully I helped prove that electric cars aren't boring and slow. That green 1303 is aiming for 0-60 in 5 seconds and a 200+ mile range  can't wait to have that one turn a wheel 8) Should be ready before Christmas :bigsmurf:

For anyone wanting to see the red demo Beetle up close I'll be showing it at the Classic & Sports Car show in Alexandra Palace in 2 weeks. Come say hello or have a chat about converting a classic you might have a niggling for

Would anyone string me up for electrifying a 911? maybe if it's an impact bumper???
