Well...time for an update. Car has been at Nick's for some time now, and we're finding that what looked like a solid car is in fact something else. In vaguely chronological order, let's start with the more pleasant stuff. The car went in for an Early911 backdate treatment, so first up was the slam panel:

All very nice up to this point.

Now it starts to get a little nasty. Some paint bubbles on rear qtrs turn out to be holes:

All the issues were around the B pillar area, the result of previous, very poor, sill repairs

Haha! Nick beat me to it. I was going to work up to the big reveal a picture at a time.

So...having cut a long story short, my basic backdate has become a full-on resto. There's holes in them there inner wings too which Nick is currently tending to.

I briefly thought about going narrow-bodied, but having just bought a set of RSR 8s for the back, and thinking about potential Carrera values in the future I've decided to put regular flared wings on.

PS - saw your car on Ch5 the other night. Looking good ! I did have to laugh when Quentin Wilson said 3.2s don't rust though ! Our old 2.2S was rusty, but I have a feeling it wasn't as bad as this one ! Still, but the time Nick's finished it'll be good as new.

Chronology all a bit b*ggered up now thanks to Moss ;)

Any road. Before finding the nest of tinworm, Nick also did a sun-roof delete using a Fenn Lane panel. Haven't got photos of the actual fitment, but here's what it looks like in beige:

Oh dear. Seems all those bills I've got from the PO for new sills and kidney bowls aren't really worth the paper they're printed on. Proper bodge job been done there. I particularly like the access hole they cut into the rear quarter so they could bodge the kidney bowl with ease.

Was half expecting to find they'd used a bit of biscuit tin to patch this up...

Oh my giddy aunt. I was driving around in this car thinking I'd got myself a bargain. I have a feeling the years it spent in storage were under the sea.

I'm feeling quite philosophical about it all now. I keep telling myself that I'm doing a service to humanity by restoring this car to its former condition. When it's all done I'll have a properly restored car instead of the quick n dirty backdate that had been my original plan.
