I guess that often with these types of project things take a little longer than hoped……

….getting close now, moulds complete and ready for first casting……

I was asked if I had seen the centre lock spindles for 3.0 RSR, 935 etc that Ben produces as he hadn't seen them on his website yet?……

…..well he only produced them about 9-10 months ago so hasn't yet got around to advertising them!…..but here's a few photos….

Hot off the press......literally!

Aluminium test items that were cast this evening and are still warm!.........and in the words of Mr Coles 'look as rough as f***'.....a good thing as this replicates originals perfectly.

These aluminium castings are basically scrap and are used to test the moulds.....

....I think after a very short period of use these will be indistinguishable from original items.....that'll work for me! 8) .......

Image

...magnesium sand is finer so areas like the part number will be a little more defined....

Image

.....the casts allow for the industry standard of 3mm machining on all machined surfaces and the front lip will end up thinner like the original....

Image

.....

Well not quite...

....Christmas came and went...life and Honda work got in the way but the real issue that has slowed things down is that the part number for the magnesium fan housings just wasn't casting good enough....

....several attempts later with different moulds and the problem was solved...

Image

....the good news is the moulds were taken to foundry this week for sixty castings to be made.....not all fan housings, Ben has also been asked to produce the oil thermostat/housing for 2.0L cars and the speedo drive for Carrera 4-cam engines (I think that's correct)....

Image

....apparently the foundry Ben uses does some pretty good work, the job in line before Ben's was for Westland helicopter gearboxes .....

Image

....nearly there! :)

The early twin sparks dizzies are complete and just waiting for assembly, will post a few final pics soon.

Cheers,
Some impressive work there (understatement!)

Is there a problem with Ben's Website Darren, the last few times I've tried I just get a blank page?

Cheers
