NO it's not just storage Nige. I'd like to be able to store some stuff in the roof space, but mainly I'd like to have more workspace. I know I've mentioned a lathe before but that's some way off (but I'd like to be able to put it in there if necessary)

I'd really like a nice place to work - warm in winter and well lit. I'd like to get a pillar drill and be able to have it out all the time. I'd basically like to combine it with the workspace in the garage to have designated spaces for designated activities - a welding area, a cleaning area, a panel beating area and so on. A space for everything and everything in it's place

That's about it really.

Somewhere to hide even on a cold winter night, sounds good to me.

I've always liked Cubist's take on a man cave.

Not the easiest place to work in as it's so full of tools but most visitors seems to enjoy the experience.

Well if it's going to be a workshop off the garage I would try to get a concrete base poured, you have many reasons to use an ammunition -

Damp
Level
It could be the same height as the garage base so no trip hazard
Heating it is far easier
Safer to put pillar drills in etc.

I would as you have already mentioned have the compressor in a smaller 1/2 height shed outside the main shed - why not make this new area your woodworking area and have the dust extraction hoover in the same smaller shed as the compressor? Thinking ahead here will pay dividends in teh long run, I'd work out exactly what you can use it for and then design it around purpose. Log store above compressor shed etc to appease the other half etc?

All good stuff. I sensed a weakening of defences in relation to the concrete base last night - that's as good as unqualified permission in my book!

Not wishing to hijack your thread, Mark, but along similar lines, has anyone bought a 'heritage' style garage (as seen in the back of Classic & Sports Cars, etc)?

Would that be a reasonably priced option for an oak framed, pitch tiled roofed garage compared to getting a builder to build one? Assuming you buy one that is one of their standard sizes and didn't go for a custom size?

Could anyone recommend a company to speak with? There seems a lot of them out there!

I had a 4 car garage as a man-cave. But I had to sacrifice half of it to house the Mother-in-law

Hey barn boy! Never mind shed chat. When we getting an update on your car? It's been aaaaaaaages.

I know, I know!
I am bringing the 911 home today, its been in a lock-up but will be home later today so hopefully I can make some progress.
I moved house last year just to get more room for the cars, but there has been a load of work to do to get the outbuildings useable, this is still in progress.

Now it's mostly watertight I can focus on getting the car sorted for CLM, and finish the shed off when I get back

I'm planning on panelling up the front as per the walls - possibly a round window in the middle if I can find one, and Cedar Shingles on the roof.

The windows were a bit of a find - out of an architectural antiques place for £40 each! I was only intending to put one in but after getting it home and thinking about the price I decided to go for one in the side as well. They are steel framed and will clean up nicely
