If you haven't already got a copy I highly recommend Barney Hoskyn's new Tom Waits biography 'Lowside of the Road, a Life of Tom Waits' (Faber & Faber, £10 for the hardback on-line). I'm a third of the way through it and only up to 'Heart Attack & Vine' as far as the albums go. Can't recommend it highly enough. At the same time it's interesting to check out YouTube - I can't believe how much stuff from the seventies has surfaced, so here's one for ya' Tom Traubert's Blues from the Old Grey Whistle Test (funnily incorrectly titled):

Thanks very much left4dead. Interesting stuff on YouTube - he looks so young! The books sounds great too, Tom Waits has had his 'own shelf' in my music collection for many years, I shall look forward to reading it.
Burma-Shave. I know what you mean re how he holds his hands on the Kentucky Ave clip, and what a classic song, he really is some guy.....anyone would think we were related.

That'll be down to his double jointed fingers - one of the first things I noticed about him when I saw him on Channel 4 back in 1983 (he was over promoting Swordfishtrombones). And then I discovered his music. Best live shows I've ever seen and I've seen LOADS
