I would like to think there will be a separate section for Classic Vehicles, just as there are already for Kit cars, rebuilt cars, LHD cars imported etc and each of those have special rules to meet.
There could be a Classic Vehicle category added to those existing, and those rules would be special to the category and have the 8 point rule not included, but something else substituted.

I feel this could satisfy the need for the UK Gov to have a system to comply with the NATO (?) directive, but I know no more than I've 'reported' here on this angry thread.

I have had my 911 since 1988, it has been a big part of my life in many ways and has been a vehicle for far more than miles. I am not alone.

Like Andy, I have felt on a very steep roller-coaster on this topic in DDK, and at one point was ready to say bollokkkks to the whole DDK thing, I felt ridiculed at points for my passion.
I don't give in, never have, so I hope I can see this through too.

I won't miss this thread, but I want to get it concluded to my mind, Keith may have other ideas! He has been a Champ.

I'm talking like it's all over, it is far from that, but I do not think I will be taking the 911 to BIVA now and the Q reg 'status', but I'm sure there will be a twist somewhere. I'm half expecting the mods will have to be inspected by an expert, but I do not feel the DfT want to heap cost onto us Classic owners, so not sure.

Time will tell, not over yet, but I feel a lot better today.

OK, here we go. Now remember, this is ONLY in relation to the MOT, nothing else. It defines which historic vehicles (VHI) will need to be MOT'd, NOT which will (or might) need to be subject to IVA etc.

As usual, it's the 'Phew, we're all safe!' outlook – except of course they neglect to say that this is solely in relation to the requirement for an MOT. It doesn't change anything with regard to the 8-point ruling and registration. But at least we can now see how things will affect (or not) the MOT status of a VHI.

I have been looking for this DfT release for the last few days, but could find nothing, then this little lot!

I have read the Gov release, and to me, the ONLY Paper to read rather than an interpretation by the press, though I have read the whole lot, and so has my precise wife.

I feel the Gov Paper is a follow-on from the email I was sent a week or so ago, and my 911 is OK, no BIVA etc.
I will continue with the MoT which was always my preferred action, exempt or not.

hi .. I've got a 1963, 356 - stock, other than yellow wheels :D - Says I need an MOT on the MOT site - is this correct, or should I not have to get one?

Thanks Thomas, by the time I get round to sorting out the MOT, could easily be May time !

For anyone who's interested, here is the draft of the MOT regs coming into force in May. Please note that this has nothing to do with IVA or BIVA or registration etc, but is of relevance to modified historic vehicles which will be required to have an MOT each year while retaining their rights to exemption from RFL.

Number plate pass/fail details will catch a few!
Also interesting the note that states historic vehicles have components with greater play than current vehicles.

The criteria for substantial change
Engine – alternative cubic capacities of the same basic engine and alternative original equipment engines are not considered a substantial change. If the number of cylinders in an engine is different from the original, it is likely to be, but not
necessarily, the case that the current engine is not alternative original equipment.

For myself and those with six conversions the above statement will require clarification.
