V cool having the engine in and it looks fantastic in that 'spare & utilitarian' engine-bay you've made.....
Really loving this build.

Re: 912 outlaw project
Excellent news !
Is this just a trial fit or the final installation ?
If so, did you modify the tunnel floor to allow the transmission to go in (& come out) separately ?

Not fully committed just yet Andy, but what do you mean regarding modifying the tunnel floor ? Sorry, that has stumped meLightweight_911 wrote:Excellent news !

Re: 912 outlaw project
There's a modification you can make to the rear of the tunnel to allow you to drop/remove the transmission (used mainly for race cars where they want to change gear ratios quickly) whilst leaving the engine in place.
Some people have carried out the mod so that they can change clutch components (& pilot bearing) without the added cost of draining the engine oil - necessary if removing engine/box together.

Thanks Andy.....Sounds interesting and makes sense, I'll do some research and have a look.....Lightweight_911 wrote:There's a modification you can make to the rear of the tunnel to allow you to drop/remove the transmission (used mainly for race cars where they want to change gear ratios quickly) whilst leaving the engine in place.

Though at this stage I may save it for another day

Re: 912 outlaw project
Truly, you learn something new every day! That is a great mod to do if the shell is at your disposal at some time.
Another mod I've seen is to remove the rear cross beam (adjacent to the engine mounts), and convert it to bolt-in/bolt-out.
Thus the engine can be removed out of the back without all the jacking up etc we all endure, but the rear body panel has to come off.
I think the 935's were done this way as they had a very expanded roll cage to the rear?

This is such a stunning project, and the engine installation must have been a great moment. Looking forward to updates

Come on Chris we need the traditional first engine start video. Guess there is still a lot to do though?
