Re: Oh yes another 1973 rhd 2.4E
Deep sixes (with or without hearts) need a mod to the valve hole to make them suitable for tubeless tyres, I have these wheels and they were machined by Harvey Weideman to accommodate.
Flat sixes don't. Apparently. Unbeknownst to me. Yours are flat sixes, and as such need no mod. It seems. Although I'm no expert....
I was hoping to be helpful, but it seems I have produced a comedy moment for your build thread. And I think Mike's summary was absolute genius.
And anyway, Moss knows what he is doing, I should never have even asked. He would have known if it needed the mod....puuuuh.
Can't see this coming up at CLM at all....

Re: Oh yes another 1973 rhd 2.4E
Im a few weeks behind on the photos.....having a constant battle with photo bucket, work and genuinely time these days but conscious I need to upload before I smash up another iPhone!
Car all finished at Barrys a couple of weeks before CLM and down a couple of miles down the road to Hastings to the painters
Truly an amazing experience which I feel privileged to have had my car subject to Barrys craftsmanship
I can truly recommend Barry, he is second to non, true craftsman, honest, 100% reliable and Crikey what a great job he has done!!!!
Absolutely gutted I didn't get time to look over the car with Barry upon completion... It would have been nice to have been talked through it all at the end before forever sealed in with paint
however I know I'm going to feel the 'true ring' of a solid she'll when I get to drive this car again.

Does anyone have any photos of 'factory' paint on a 73 car please? Whilst at CLM there was discussion about where the paint should be 'scarce' like under the bonnet etc and just want to forward some photos to the painters to ensure its a factory paint job

First stage complete! Epoxy primer.... I decided in the end to follow Nicks RS (same colour) out of Barrys and down to DC Coachworks in Hastings, they come highly recommended from Barry, have carried out paint work for DK Engineering on many classic and new cars (Porsche, Ferrari etc) so have an excellent pedigree.

I'll email some reference sources Adam and send you a few photos.Bigfoot wrote:Does anyone have any photos of 'factory' paint on a 73 car please? Yours should be similar to Richard Murphy's and Richard Huckle's bar the engine bay and arches which should be in body colour as opposed to black. Kieron's car is a 73.
Most paint shops will just want to make it shiny paint everywhere and in all fairness these areas are never seen so it's purely personal preference. Once finished very few will notice the difference.
Personally I would insist on painting the car in a solid 2K but again not many will notice a difference.
Cheers,
Darren

Looking good Jackamo. Will be a peach when finished. Not bad for 200k

Mighty impressed with Barry's work as usual. Your shell looks great Adam. We are so lucky to have such a craftsman in our community and I'm looking forward to his next challenge already.
Just one question (as I am no painter) but most restos I have been closely following start with etch primer and not epoxy primer. Was this just a slip on your part or was that indeed the first coat on the metal?
Regards
Mike

We always go straight with epoxy as a first coat, there is no better protection than this initial coat. Etch varies in quality and generally isn't the best.

Re: Oh yes another 1973 rhd 2.4E
Just had a conversation with Barry and indeed he suggests the way to go is epoxy primer first. Etch primer is now out of favour so I am learning something new again. Fascinating details.

Yes that's absolutely fine, it's the only thing we leave on. Otherwise back to bare metal before epoxy.stretch wrote:Darren, i assume the Porsche Black factory primer is alright to paint on ?
