Re: 75 S to R Homage
Great stuff Andy, all beautifully executed.
Will be very interested to see how quiet your diy silencer works out to be!
As to the clutch pedal/rest:
Does your clutch foot foul that rest at all?
I tried the same a long time ago with a real RHD rest with my LHD to RHD conversion and found the rest far too close such that when I depressed the clutch pedal the edge of my (size 71/2) shoes would clash. I could not get it further across and if I did so, my clutch foot was at 45 deg so bloody uncomfortable!
I now shuffle a lot on a long journey finding a comfort spot during motorways...

Re: 75 S to R Homage
Bet its quieter than open phones
, I've put some metal inside to ensure the gas route is the same as standard as far as possible with capped phones.
The clutch rest seems fine in dry runs but you'll note my pedal box is far from standard its a good 50mm nearer the offside than a normal install which negates the clearance issue you experienced. Time will tell if its comfortable

Re: 75 S to R Homage
Here's some detail on those manifold adaptors, the new alloy manifolds (thanks Keith) and the finished exhaust. I fitted it all this morning , nearly had a disaster as one of the manifolds studs I needed to change for longer ones sheared off ( my fault for picking up the studlock instead of the retainer when originally assembling) Any way lesson learnt and no harm done. Sadly its too wet to run it up outside but a quick fire up in the garage with some temporary caps on the phones was ok. Its a lot quieter and I think but am not sure that it did pick up all the cylinders.

That all looks great Andy, but are you still on '5'?
I've used M6 K nuts on my manifold fixings, allows a smaller spanner into those tight spots...

Re: 75 S to R Homage
Yes , k nuts are a good idea the studs are a bit marginal on length, I'll order some on Monday. Good call.
Regarding running its still wet today so can't answer for sure it sounded like a six after I reassembled the induction side ( I did clean the idle circuits and air by pass all definetly spotless and clear) I washed out all the other jets and passages too. Its still "sneezing" through the inlets and back firing so something is still amiss.
Anyway today I'll re-gap and clean all the plugs and fit my new ignition trigger. Hopefully it will stop raining and I'll get a chance to run it.
Grand Prix later though

Re: 75 S to R Homage
Mrs Hillclimber is watching the roundy-round stuff, so I'm visiting DDK!
My 5 pot came to 6 when I finally discovered the slightest air leak in the manifold/head gasket sandwich because I used the only (wrong) gaskets I had to match the PMO manifolds to the 3.2 heads which have a large cut-out for the injector spray path.
Richard Parr solved that for me.
I found this by spraying carb cleaner generously around the gasket area on each cylinder in turn. The engine note changed (deeper) when the fluid closed the hair wide gap for a few seconds before being swallowed by the engine (all on tick-over)
Bob put the engine back to points before this but I've kept the Hall-Effect ignition system to one side, so will be interested to see if it helps you.
From cold the 3.2 on PMO's is a bugger to start, brilliant when hot which may point at mixture.
Bangs/pops/farts all point to too much air?

Re: 75 S to R Homage
Decided my car was more important than "roundy roundy". Regapped all the plugs at 0.6 mm fitted the Accuspart unit re timed it at 6 deg before.
Ran it no sneezing , banging or popping, up I still think the back left is lazy since that bank isn't as smooth runing it up with the carbs unlinked and I noticed that the spark connector cap to that one is arcing so will change the lot. But this video shows the difference,

Any tips on good leads that aren't stratospheric in cost?

Re: 75 S to R Homage
All leads are ££££ in my experience, but do come with tops etc on. The set for my 6 plug 3.2 came from Type911.
As a thought on balanced running, i found my PMO's were hyper sensitive to side-to-side balance.
Have you tried running it now with the caps off and hold your palm of each hand over the 'phones?
Is the 'beat' even on both sides?
Is the temperature even on both sides?
If not then one/more plugs are lazy.
I narrowed my lazy cylinder to one side, found that air leak and tuned the lot again leaving the ignition where Bob had set it.
I trust you have followed the PMO set-up routine Andy?
You will need the correct flow meter to get it all correct. I think you have done this routine because you have set the float levels?
I spent a time doing it all using the flow meter and a Halfords Colour tune, amazingly accurate and shows how sensitive the carbs are to a 1/8 turn and less to get it all sorted.
Flippin tedious.
Did you start that engine run on the clip from cold or hot?
If cold, I'm mighty impressed at the way it started!
ps: Hope you had a rag where the door 'rested' against the garage shelving!

Re: 75 S to R Homage
. Oh yes I had a rag tied on. I haven't set it up beyond the basic weber info of two open on idle mixture and two on air bypass. Both sides synchronised regarding butterflies and pick up. Its a bit fat on tickover. That little video was started from hot , from cold its 3 clear pumps leave it alone and crank . It starts first time and settles to idle.
The left side is lazy and I can see from the colouration on the exhaust wrap that the back cylinder on the left side is colder. I have triple vac gauges and a synchro but need that cylinder to fire first to make any meaningful use of them good thing is that the cylinder is sealed at 180 psi with an open throttle.
Cheers
Andy
I'm going to buy a set of leads and caps since I can see that one arcing in dim light. A bit annoying but I'll get there.

Re: 75 S to R Homage
You won't get side to side balance by mechanical 'equality', the flow meter is the only way.
I tried the carbs separate and the tick over stops set even by feeler gauge and they were miles out according to the new flow meter.
The PMO routine is very good and even suggests two meters one each side to assure the balance is kept level.
Without the sparks right you are on a hiding to more irritation...

Re: 75 S to R Homage
Right I'm officially at the end of my tether, 180 psi comp , leakdown good, new caps on no 3, ignition timed, cam timing checked ( limit of advance but ok), valve clearances rechecked all good..... still not getting 6..swapped carbs side for side... fault stays on no 3 cylinder.
Motor out and strip near side I think....bugger.
