I think it becomes an illness

Parts that I previously considered to be good enough have now found themselves on the 'to restore' pile!

I went and bought some stuff this morning, and I think the receipt was the sign of a good day
So after lots of effort addressing various parts, the back of the car now looks like this.
Bumper top is from 914 rubber. The bumper (I can't bring myself to call it a fender!) is in okay condition. The chrome will need addressing at some point, but not this year.
Does anyone have a part number for the following bolt? It holds a bowden cable on one of the heater flaps and alas one has snapped.

Happy 2019!
I can't believe it is 9 months since my last update. I blame a broken camera, a fabulous summer which meant it was way to warm too be inside, breakages of other cars (three alternators on 3 cars in one year!) and a house move.
So, 2019 is the 50th anniversary of the 914. I guess I should pull my finger out and get the car finished. I haven't read back, but I am sure I said that for 2017 and 2018 too......
Preparing a car to a reasonable standard is a curse. Next to the shiny paint, any component that isn't up to scratch looks awful. So when I thought I was ready to fit arts, I have ended up stripping them and painting / plating etc. One such component was the gearstick. The paint on the housing was flaking, and the gear stick itself was tarnished. So the former was stripped and painted, the latter has been zinc plated. I have also replaced the plastic washers / cups which sit on either end of the spring. The photo shows the old and new ones.
And here is the gearstick assembly built back up. I know it will be hidden under carpet, but as I say, this reassembly is becoming a curse....

I have also rebuild the brake compensator thingy.
I did contemplate fitting it as was. But when I took it out of its storage bag, I didn't think it was good enough.
So I ordered the rebuild kit, and did my usual strip down, paint parts and get some plated.
Ready for reassembly
And assembled

Nice work. Where did you get the rebuild kit from? I could do with one myself.

A few hours in the workshop this weekend. Fitted new brakes pipes, good ridge hoses (thanks to Green Ernie).
Photo of the front
New handbrake cable, genuine Porsche
And all the parts still fitted to the rear end
I still have the pipes to fit from the flexi to the brake compensator, but I find working under the car a pain in the do-dah. So will get around to that.
