Fitting the engine is obviously a fairly minor task in the grand scheme of things although it's a major stage for me after nearly 3 years of ownership and close to 2 years since I started the restoration.

Still quite a bit to do but all being well I'll have driven an early 911 in just a few weeks.

Great to finally have the engine and gearbox in the car. I think the gearbox will have been shipped without oil so don't forget to fill that.

No big unveiling planned (it's just an E after all) although a rather special road trip.

….but it's not like it's an untouched one previous owner, genuine 20,000 mile car in original paint, is it!

Now that's exciting....so close now, you must be able to smell the petrol in your nostrils!

I was sent this photo of my car this evening, taken some 30 years ago…..the young chap in the photo now has it hanging on his garage wall!

Nice to know that my car helped fuel a Porsche passion that looks set to last a lifetime! …..

Well the planned final items and engine start-up didn't quite happen in the week for various reasons so I went along this afternoon…….sadly to come away frustrated!



Unfortunately there was still quite a bit to do and ultimately a fuel issue gremlin halted the start-up and we ran out time!

These things are bound to crop up on a comprehensive rebuild like this..….it's just the delays in actually getting to them that's the real frustration.

On top of the aborted start-up we also found that my oil tank suffers from a number of major leaks so something else to add to my 'to-do' list!….I should be happy as we're getting ever closer although I have to admit I came away feeling pretty deflated.

Still, it was great to see the engine fitted and the car looking brand new, plus…...there's always next week!
