I guess you're finding it difficult to see the advances (being so close to it and all) but - as an impassioned observer - it's looking fantastic. Excellent progress.

Brilliant progress and another rebuild that is setting the 'new car' standard that many of us aspire to but will never achieve.

It must be really hard to maintain as one single scruffy component will let the side down so there can be no compromise as Ferryman knows well!

Luckily there is no single component on my car that isn't scruffy which makes working on it so much easier as it is consistent in a different way

Good work there sir, keep up the faith..have you got the plastic pipe that guides the petrol flap cable installed yet..I had to do that once the wing was on and what a b'stard it was too...rest of the car was a breeze..

CLM next year still looking likely then...

Oh, and make sure you keep lining up those screws, nuts and bolts..can't let the standards slip

Looking great, just a quick note, clean all the earth points first before getting to much stuff in the way. We also go over the entire shell cleaning all the stud/bolt threads. Worth doing at this stage.

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement - it does make a difference.

Alan - good point - and timely too. Must confess I can't remember them all - will pm you for some pointers on this one.

JP - fuel flap cable is in - it was one of the first things I did - I don't think it is plastic on mine....so unless I'm missing something....

Funnily enough, the wing mirror was one of the trickiest jobs - holding it with one hand and then balancing two washers and trying to get a nut started with the other hand was a right pita. That was one of those 'walk away' jobs.

The other thing I noticed yesterday is that I seem to have lost my fuel pipes from down the tunnel. Not sure where they went walkabout, but will have to put some new ones in now. Glad I noticed fairly early doors.

Paul - I've been trying to keep up with the torrent of content on your re-build, its quite a job you've taken on there. You did make me smile with the round seat knob obsession. I know exactly what that's like. You just can't rest until you get the right bit, no matter how seemingly insignificant it would be to a mortal.... Oh yes, and your seats are way cool. I'm going for some perforated bolsters and basket-weave inserts.

But I have got gold weave cocoa mats coming, so that will be my interior bling...

It's the plastic tube that acts as a sleeve to the file flap wire pull, connects the twp steel pipes, one from wing, the other from the A post together...a real bugger once the wings on... ...concur with the wing mirror, I had a job getting the nuts tightened up with a socket, had forgotten about that one...

Wishing like mad you had remembered to fit that plastic pipe for the flap cable. I took my wing back off to do it.

The German fitter on the production line had 'X file' fingers and a wonderful socket set.

First the bumper now this…….it'll need a re-paint at this rate!

In all seriousness nothing that can't be fixed and we'll get it looking factory fresh and perfect when need be….guess the second one's on us too!

Excellent update Richard, great to see things moving on and full of admiration for how you're tackling this project…..you deserve to be very proud of yourself, well done.

Thanks for this, I didn't even know about this, don't remember taking this out when we disassembled, I guess I never had one...

I guess you mean item 14?



My guess is that by yours an Graham's description, I will probably have preferred to stay in blissful ignorance....

Darren - I've now put an 'event shelter' over the garage ceiling - no more damage hopefully....sorry about that

Aye lad, that's the little bugger......don't think it's the end of the world if it's not installed, just make sure you grease up the cable plenty so it doesn't rust and push a load of grease up into the 2 exposed tube ends whilst your at it

It's not imssible....just a right little pain...literally...it might have been OK to get it on, but then the damn cable kept snagging on the inside of the plastic tube as the plastic has to follow whatever alignment the 2 metal tubes create

I did manage it in the end..so it can be done

Good work. I know about the 'overwhelmed' feeling but you know how to eat an elephant don't you? One piece at a time. Make sure you enjoy your journey - it looks like you are doing just that.

I know before any new job I get a bit scared, but that just makes the sense of satisfaction at the end of the job even greater.
