A snap of the "plumbed" in breather tank for jury.



I will be using some fuel tank foam in a little custom made cap to vent the tank but stop oil vapour and a little turned bung to blank the other hole. You will notice I've capped one of the oil tank vents , this feels right but not sure yet we'll see if it builds any pressure.

Hope to connect the clutch, refit the drive shafts and sort out a throttle connection this weekend.

I've found a supplier for 30 mm nuts to allow me build my own oil piping system without breaking the bank so if that all comes good it will be ready to run, I was on the verge of screwcutting some special oil thread adaptors why on earth did porsche use those metric fittings and why are they so expensive.....

Hit a snag this afternoon connecting the pedal box to the clutch and throttle linkages.

Throttle was easy just a straight through cable with crimped on snap ends to connect to the standard ball fittings at the carbs and my ""special" pedal box.

Clutch was meant to be easy too just connect the standard cable to my box adjust the cable and all would be fine......now I know 911 clutches are heavy especially with no helper spring but the pressure required started to deflect the steel the pedal arm is made of , still that's no problem just need to brace it...the pedal weight I can live with. The main issue is I don't think its pulling enough cable to disengage the clutch I'm sure I'm only getting about 20 mm of cable pull I can't see how much the arm at the box is moving and was working on my own.

Does anyone know how much cable a standard box pulls at the arm next to the pedal box in the tunnel with the little clevis on it . This part is standard on my installation so should give a reference...its a 915 box.

Andy, pictures of your pedal box setup and linkage would help to see problems with the clutch operation. Do you have a clutch pedal stop and a free play at the pedal of about 12 - 18mm ?(pedal pulled back all the way)

Chris, I realised last night that there should be and isn't a pedal stop in the new box but I'm not sure what difference having one would make since the clutch diaphragm spring is the only think Im pulling against and it always returns to the same position. I definetlly have free play in the cable . I'll take some pictures and post them later today . Thanks

Just caught up with this thread, fantastic work and attention to detail. Not sure if anyone commented on the wheels, the finish you have chosen gets the thumbs up from me, bling would not have worked

Thanks, I like the wheels too ( which is lucky) they are just stripped of anodising, bead blasted then re anodised clear ...cheap too..

Sorted the clutch I hope. Really need to look properly before thinking the worst..A lock nut on one of the adjustable rose jointed links was fouling the pedal box base plate and limiting pedal stroke So a little adjustment and I do have enough cable pull. Still need thighs like Will Hoy to disengage the clutch though. I think I'll beef up the pedal arm since I can feel it flex and build in a proper pedal stop. I have about 18mm free play at the pedal before it starts picking up load to disengage the clutch so think it will be all ok.

I fitted the later Omega spring assy to my early 911 box, the difference is amazing and well worth the bit of a bracket to be made.
Finding the parts though is a different matter...(quite a lot of parts !)

You might even need thighs like Chris Hoy ...

A Question and an up date.

Question first...what parts do I need to fit a helper or omega spring to my 74/75 915 box and does anyone have any of them....


Update...A few snaps of trial fitting my oil cooler and its protector screen, the oil lines which were declared unuseable scrap so I picked up a Pelican tip and pressurised them to 200 psi with a track pump then heated the dented bits with a mapp torch.. not as sketchy as it sounds and really succesfull Just got to turn some new end fittings silver solder them on and get some paint on them






I must be able to build a working oil stat from this lot The etch primed body has been adapted to use BSP threaded inserts


Popped the headrests with their restored frames into my recaro style shells with vents ready to get to the trimmer soon.

Some time talking with the brilliantly helpful staff at "Think automotive" has yielded all the M30 fitttings and hose to make up all the flexible oil lines I need for less than £130 Some measuring and cutting and a visit to my local hydraulic hose company to get them crimped will see the flexy's done.





I bought a chunk of brass to make new end fittings for the brass lines which will be silver soldered on to the original lines replacing the end sections which had been damaged... a little job for the weekend When I'm not decorating
