Since my car's engine has quite a high compression I decided to 'deviate' again & fit a lightweight high torque starter rather than use the original (very heavy) Bosch starter - this is a swap that I've done on most of the 911's I've owned but you need to be aware that not all lightweight/high torque starters were created equal & there are some very inferior offerings out there.
I bought mine from AES for about half the price that Andy Prill charges for the same item ...

I mentioned earlier in this thread that there was a further development in the plastic screw/curry paste saga ...
- the sad news being that after thinking that I'd successfully accelerated the 'ageing' process, the screws gradually (over a period of a couple of weeks) returned to their original (white) colour !
So I had to resort to more stringent methods - soaking the screws in yellow food colouring :
After a week they had taken on a suitable colour (allowing for fading):
& after rinsing thoroughly:
They were then left in direct sunlight for several weeks, checking the degree of fading every few days. After a couple of weeks the fading seemed to have slowed down significantly & a month after the original treatment they appeared to have stabilised at just the right shade :
- comparison with a non-treated screw:
Only time will tell ...

OCD at its best (or worst!)
It's just plainly superb Andy!

I am going to show that to my wife to make her appreciate how good she has it!

Although on special occasions I will run the car with open (carb) trumpets, I wanted to be able to utilise some suitable period-looking air filters the rest of the time.
I had aquired some K&N filters/housings in the (non-Watershield) style that most of the 904's equipped with 6-cylinder engines run these days but the combination of 'tall' inlet manifolds & phenolic spacers meant that the tops of the filter housings just fouled on the underside of the rear deck - so I neede to search for another solution.
On checking K&N's database it transpired that the same shape/style of filter used in their std Porsche Weber set-up was available in a shallower version so I ordered a couple of those.
These pictures show the difference:
Obviously the current trumpets were now going to be too tall to fit inside the shallower filters so I looked around for some suitable shorter ones. Concensus of opinion from those in the know was that a minimum of 25mm free space was required above the trumpets in order not to restrict the air flow.
Having done the necessary calculations & searched potential suppliers I found/purchased what I needed:
Preliminary test-fitting them to the engine showed that there were now no clearance problems ...

I had a good poke around your car earlier Andy - stunning.*
* I didn't actually touch it, I was terrified of inadvertently scratching it

I was worried that even looking at pictures might tarnish it in some way!

How much are you shortening the trumpets by overall Andy, hope it doesn't give flow problems into the manifolds.

A few scratches won't hurt - it's going to get scratched sooner or later !

It's stone chips that are the killers

I wouldn't mind talking about your trumpets and filters they might be a good option for my car too??

Mike -they're about the same overall height as the ones that were fitted when this engine was in my 914/6 GTR.
I won't know what effect these will have on the engine's performance until I get it on a rolling road/dyno.

Interesting stuff Andy, it's a bit of a black art messing with air intakes. A racing mfi airbox
using the shorter SCRS trumpets lost 20hp when fitted onto high butterflies.

That's a surprise Mike.

- but your cams/overall engine spec is a lot more radical so I'm sure it would have more of an effect on your engine's output (he says hopefully) ...
It's all part of the development/research/enjoyment anyway!
