The car looks fantastic Darren.
Every little detail is executed to perfection. Just the rear quarter window hinges tell the level of restoration and the quality throughout. Wonderful work.
I do hope you like driving early 911's, once you get the engine bolted in. Be a shame if you don't.

Really appreciate the comments…...the support and encouragement from DDK during this project has been exceptional.

Impossible to stop grinning and there's little doubt I'll be blown away with my first drive!….after all, early 911's are the coolest cars on the planet!

Redtek tomorrow, then all I need is a long, warm dry summer!…..

Oh and btw; I will be changing those screws for the correct type!….and fitting a second wiper!

Excuse my indulgence but the car looked so good coming out of the garage today I couldn't resist…..





…the car is now at Redtek where I swapped it with this…..



…..a genuine 64K mile, full history, 993 Turbo that Nick Fulljames has owned for a number of years; Nick's been prepping the car for sale over the last 18 months and despite it 'not really being needed', in true Fulljames fashion he's rebuilt the engine and gearbox, reconditioned the turbo chargers, refreshed the suspension and calipers etc, we tidied the paintwork last year which is now flawless and are just finishing a few final items to make perfect! Once complete it'll be one of the best. ….the one thing Nick isn't very good at is getting around to actually placing a 'for sale' advert!….silly boy leaving it with me, he should know I can't keep my mouth shut!

As tempting as the Turbo may be what I really came for was to reunite my car with its heart…



…two weeks time and she'll be a runner!

I've been on the lookout for a good original rear grill and 911E badge, items that are still nice and dark and not too faded…..something as nice as this ..…



Alan at Canford Classics very kindly gifted the wonderful 'PORSCHE' script the engine lid now wears although unfortunately as yet hasn't been able to find a suitably dark grill and 911E badge.

With the imminent first drive of my car in the sight I've needed to do something quickly - from my understanding new Porsche or reproduction items are powder coated black and although they look quite smart, original grills have never been 'black'!

So the old grill, at least for the moment, it's had to be….not pretty to start with...



…very bent and with the odd chunk missing! …



…and even when stripped and cleaned it exposed some odd fading and stripes…





Not wanting to just paint the grill black we had a play with colours to try and retain the dark purple/black look of an anodised original…





…colour selected, painted (mesh we've painted standard matt black) and compared against a black swatch...subtle…



…and carefully re-assembled by yours truly (see, not totally useless! )…



…with original aluminium bolts and grommets (which look exactly like those on the floorpan centre tunnel)…





…add a bit of bling and hey presto…



…a bit of flash and it brings out the purple tinge; hopefully this will be the same in sunlight…



Not a bad result considering the starting point and certainly something I can live with for now.….however if anyone has a perfect original grill and badge they'd be willing to part with then please call.

Very much the point…I do like to sow a seed!

If left to Nick it would still be 'going' on the market for a fair few years although it is his intention to sell it and I'll place an ad when final detailing is complete.
