Re: your comment about the 28mph average, trust me on one of the long regularity rallies, with all kinds of weather, trying to achieve that can be pretty difficult. The Coppa d'Europa event I did saw us tearing along at 100+mph trying to make up time when we wrong-slotted on a couple of occasions.

Definitely give it another go! Oh, and you MUST ask Sanjay...

Really sorry to hear the sad story, but glad that it hasn't deterred you from going again.
As Keith said, don't be fooled by the 28mph average, that is really difficult to achieve and what he said about 100+ mph is so true!
One thought, have you considered the HRCR events? They are running a training day on the 2nd February next year down in the Forest of Dean with some top navigators giving advice. This is then followed by a practice road section.
On the 12th January will be their Open Day at Gaydon with all the various event organisers there. There will also be a display celebrating the Mini 60 years. Always a good gathering for coffee and bacon rolls!

That’s motorsport for you, ups and downs. Definitely give it another go. Look forward to your next write up of a successful event.

F.I.R.C. events in Belgium worth a look lots of stage miles and no more expensive than Uk I have been servicing over there for more than 20 years and still a lot more beer to try!

I used to do 12 car road rallies with Glenn75S at Uni. We had to hit a 30 average between controls, but by the time you’d sat stationary for 10 minutes plotting the route from a set of deliberately obtuse instructions you had to drive like your life depended on it to get anywhere near it.

Huge fun, and in the middle of the night on lanes it was more than enough!

Anyhow you are now a bit wiser and the next time you’ll have a better idea what to expect and what spares to carry. So get your entry in for the next available event, it will be more enjoyable and hopefully more successful. Serve your apprenticeship and have a bit of fun

Good on you for keeping going in the face of great anguish. Motorsport is both a bitch and the best feeling ever. It kicks you when you’re least expecting or down.

Never , ever give up, you’ll be amazed what lurks around the bend. On one of my very early night navs we had missed much of the route in Galway in the 70s and retired to the hotel early. The COC asked us had we had an accident or the car broken down , we replied negative. He ordered us back out and to check in at the final control. Which we did, and later discovered that because we did we finished third novice crew.

The Navigator has been my wife for the past 40 years and still hates my cars !

God bless the late David Baynes, the COC and Irish Night Nav Champion. I’ve never forgotten the lesson.
