Funny how things work out sometimes. The car looks immaculate, its sounds as if there has been a significant spent in times gone by, looking forward to seeing more pictures and hearing all about it. I love the 993, well set up it is a great car. All the best to enjoy.

I've always wanted to walk into a new car showroom and simply hand over my credit card, not sure mine would stretch much past a Dacia Sandero though

So the McLaren guys were brilliant.

They arranged to get the car over to their main workshop in Birmingham a couple of day later for the inspection. Neil was away racing in the US so little Rob, the
BS Motorsport resident 993 expert came up with me to look it over. They gave us a ramp for the morning and all the coffee we could drink, have to say we were
very much the poor relation though...



As soon as we went under the car we began to appreciate all the work that had been done. Dick Lovett had said back in the summer it was basically a new car, and
they weren't far wrong. With the trays off you could see everything had been replaced or refurbished, the suspension rebuilt with new dampers, bushes and wish
bones, new disc's, brake calipers rebuilt, not just repainted but all apart and renewed, the attention to detail was superb. The shell was fantastic and all checked
out, and the full respray extended into all the right places. Lots of new clear waxoyl which was good because this car is going to be used.



The engine bay was immaculate. While it had been stripped down and the engine out for the paint it had obviously been thoroughly detailed, with work to the
injection manifolds, fan and fan housing and so on. Everything worked as it should, the only faults were knackered dizzy caps and rotor arms, they were the
originals and causing a slight misfire on the test drive.

On the ramp you really see the 18" Fuchs wheels, as I said I love them.... but not everyone does!



The deal was done and it was mine, with delivery to Neils before Christmas. So a big thank you to Gary and Ben and if you need a McLaren I can recommend those boys!

Nice result Mike. It does look 'new'. I like the wheels too, but then I would.

I have an "I'll take it story". I used to see an old dear in her 70's regularly (professionally) some years ago and she unfortunately became widowed from her wealthy husband. Soon afterwards she visited the local Jaguar showroom in her woolen top coat, hat and patent handbag and shoes. "I'd like to buy a car" she whispered. "Oh yes" said the young salesman hardly lifting his head from the paperwork on his desk , "really, and what model were you thinking about " he churlishly asked. 'I'd like the one in the window" she replied "the blue one". "Madam" he replied "that is the top of the range model and it is £40000".
'That's fine" she said " I saw it in the window yesterday and I'll have it". The young man reluctantly got out his paperwork and said he would need some details for the finance, but before he could start she opened her bag and popped the 40 grand on the table. "I went to the bank this morning, will it be ready this afternoon?"

True story, I even got to drive the car out of her garage because she wanted to know what the black box in the boot was. (Multi CD player).

Great story and a fabulous colour. Well done tracking it down again.
I know what you mean about the difficulty of reproducing the colour accurately as it's similar to Arrow Blue on my car, but in my case it's far more likely to be operator error!

I helped Mike before when he purchased the silver Martini.
He promptly took a perfectly good car and proceeded to take it all apart and completely rebuild it...
Within 6 months I predict this car will look like this:

Congratulations mike. Love stories like this, when fate seems to have such a big role to play. It looks like the perfect 993 too, the riviera on black theme is bang on.

I'll just ramble on a bit more.....

So the car arrived at BS Motorsport a few days before Christmas, the McLaren guys said they'd put all the paperwork, history, owners manual and wallet together with a photo album of the restoration work that was coming from the owner under the front hood. Opened it up and they'd also put in a bottle of Champagne which I though was pretty classy!

I'd seen a little of the paperwork, but what was in the leather bound portfolio was staggering. Dick Lovett the OPC in Swindon had done the work, there were 16 full pages of parts invoices alone, and none of that covered the full respray by Spraymaster their official paint department. Dave Nunn's work on the interior was all itemised, it really was a beautiful job.

respray work, with the prep to the usual 993 areas.
