I was on my monthly business week in Palma de Mallorca this week and finally got to meet the man behin 9treffen.
http://9treffen.com/ [great movie from evo on Mallorca driving embedded on the site- to give you a taste]
I met up with Josep [who came in his daily driver guards red '81 911SC ] for a coffee on Friday PM and then went out yesterday to visit his home and workshop in Inca [ 30 mins from Palma]
Great guy , real enthusiast who has built up his own car collection from sheer hard work [he is partner in a body repair shop] and wants to share them , his Island and his passion for motorsport , whilst also making a living - why not indeed?
He's done all the work on his cars single handed, and if there was a wider market for classic car restoration on Mallorca could probably make that work- but although there are a fair amount of classics here - not a lot of resto apprently going on.
His current stable is
1981 911 SC
2001 993 C2 varioram
1970 914/4
1968 911 R tribute -built himself -fully rally specced- absolutely fantastic
914/6 GT tribute- also built himself- fully rally specced- even more fantastic?
He also has use of
1977 911s targa
550 Spider replica [ currently in build]
His ideas revolve around being able to rent the cars either singly or together for three purposes:
General tourism on the Island [ for those that want to rent a classic]
Track /test days on the Island's 3.2 kms circuit
http://www.circuitmallorca.com/index.ph ... cetrack-en
for groups of 4 - using 4 cars - great idea IMO
Classic Regularity rallying on either the well know Mallorca classic rally
http://www.orisrallyclasico.com/index.php?Idi=2
or one of the seven other "Balears championship" rallies, and five hill climb events on closed roads.
There are also five "open road"regularity rallies for 60-80 cars each year - so lots of scope to fly in and drive in something competitive- which really has my attention [seeing as I'm there each month anyway]
Josep is still workin on pricing, but as an example- rental /drive of the 914/6 for an Islas championship rally, including entry, all licences, prep , use of the car , meals etc. - could come to around EUR 1700 - so EUR 850 per head for driver/codriver or if required Josep can be your co- driver [ he knows every road back wards]
I've said I'll help him get some of the English on his website up to speed and give him any other help that I can as I believe this sort of enterprise can only be good for the classic porsche scene in general.
I know Russ and Jon have alreday met up with Josep- may be we can combine [or bring in some others] for a DDK Palma track day?
I'm going to be posting this on the Porsche Club Ireland forum too to see if I can get Josep some support there too.
I only took one pic yesterday- an Iphone panorama that has some weird banding - but it does give you an idea of Josep's fab workshop.
