Hi Johnny,

Vemu is known for the bottom end of the market. But they do sell honest cars. They are cheap for a reason and that's not saying that they sell rubbish. I've looked at a couple of their cars but in the end I bought my Carrera in the states to take out the middle man.

Good to know. Yes, I liked them because they sold their cars without trying to hide their condition, and posted heaps of pics and video for each car. I am a bottom of the market kind of guy

The car I bought was as expected cosmetically (perhaps a bit more sunburned than it looks in the pic) - and better than expected mechanically. I don't know whether that is the nature of the tough SC mechanicals, or whether I was lucky - but it isn't even looking like it is needing any top end work currently, which I had factored in to the decision. No significant oil leaks, no smoke, not using oil, lots of power..You can stand down for now, Mr Bainbridge..

I can't believe someone took on the Bronze car..but its impressive that it made that mileage.

As wingman I too was impressed with Johnny's determination to drive it home, especially after the car took 45 mins to start. Jaap and another customer shook their heads in a bemused way whilst loading an old gold merc onto a trailer - the preferred method of collection. We then coughed, spluttered and wobbled onto the streets of Holland to find the steering wheel loosely attached. Fortunately an accidental turn on to a busy motorway (#!$%?) led to a well equipped service station where air, fuel and stability were added. I think it detected a little TLC and then recovered to become almost perfect for the run from Newcastle home - firing immediately after a night on the ferry and driving strong and straight.

The play in the steering was laughable. Or in other words, quite scary, once I had realised that the considerable up and down movement in the steering column wasnt a design feature..perhaps for adjusting the angle of the rear wing or something..

Anyway, that particular feature is now well and truly fixed with this 20 quid part from pelican. Fitted in 20 minutes, I am hoping that sets the tone for future work on this car. Must get the resto thread going..
