Did you take all the centre of the Mb wheel out to get the 356 centre in?? Also are you welding the centre in yourself.??

How you going to measure the weld for weight, if you have different lengths of weld runs this will have an impact on the balance of the wheel?? Even if you measure and mark the wheel for equal weld runs you can build a weld higher than another weld so difficult to get a good balance.??

Not a problem. All I can say is that not even factory wheels are perfect...

I did the same procedure with these rears. Didn't need any weights when tested in the balancetest. Driven 4 years with them now without any kind of vibrations... Even up to 120km/h.... :D

A mate of mine does this with wheels destined for Morris Minors, (using MM center and alternative outer rims), seems to work there as well without additional balancing .........................

I'd imagine that true and round is harder to achieve than balance! But it's been done before so nothing is impossible.

No problem with getting them round either. The arches are pretty rigid. And when you press the centers in before welding they also support the arches very much.

Scored one nice original Kronprintz 4½x15 wheel this week. If I would be able to find a pair for it I think I will try using them in the front. Just sandblast them and repaint...

Any reason why you used the MB wheel as apposed to another manufacturer?

Only reason I used MB wheels was that I happened to have a set at the garage and the innerdiameter of the wheelarch was a perfect fit for both beetle and Porsche wheel centers.

I've been told that there are other makes that also works.

Some new panels in the making. The bulge over the transmission is needed due to the 5cm engine and transimission rise.

Kristian, nice to know the Mercedes wheel is fitting the 356 wheel center. What is the trick to center the wheelcenter in the rim?

No trick really to center it as it fits tightly.. More work to get the rim straight on the center so it dont wobble but not a big of a deal that either. I have used a front spindle mounted in a benchwice with brakedrum mounted on. Bolt the wheel on the drum with the rim allready premeasured close to final setting.
Then just by rotating the wheel I can fineadjust the rim so it dont wobble.
Then spotweld 4 spots on 12, 3, 6 and 9 a'clock. Check that it still dont wobble.
Then measure that the Offset is correct for what I had in mind. After that just burn the two pieces together.

I can post some pictures of the process as soon as I have time to go to the garage again.
