Ian, Bill's right, I had mine powdercoated and despite 'bunging up' the openings into the tank its was full of shot - I had it ultrasonically cleaned - cost a couple of quid and did a great job, definitely piece of mind not to trash your engine bearings etc, See

Petrol Inlet Seal

Post by Highfield »

I did this a couple of weeks ago but have only just got around to uploading pictures. I finished off the inner wing refurb with a new petrol filler bowl and petrol cap flap.

The first thing is to remove the metal retaining ring from inside the petrol filler, and pull out the last of the old rubber bowl.

Whilst it is straight forward to insert the new rubber bowl without the petrol filler pipe, you cannot get the pipe in - ask me how I know :-)

So only fix at the filler flap end to start with. The original metal retaining ring is reused and everything here is firm.

The filler neck then pushes in and twists to meet the tank, where it is rejoined with the flexible hose and clips. The overflow pipes are reconnected at the top and bottom of the filler bowl.

I have a new foam gasket but cannot see for the life of me where it fits ?

Finally the cap and new flap are fitted - not sure how this goes ?

The paintwork will be tidied up at Tuthills, so that is it for the Inner Wings.
