Yesterday I lighly blasted and wirebrushed the calipers and some other brakeparts after acid dip. They turned out pretty well, so I'm planning on cad plate them instead of painting. But I found a couple of problems, both front calipers seems to be for right side. The halves that have the pipe tread are marked 17R ja 5R on the casting. This causes the bleeder to be left at the bottom on left side. Another issue was that the other caliper was missing the spacer plates and it was still working!?!?1?! So are those spacer bits needed with non wented disks? How much these calipers go for?

Are '69 calipers supposed to have those spacer bits? The other front caliper is with out spacers. But the rears have them. In the parts book offered on the Porsche pages I didn't see spacers on front or rear calipers.

Nice One TiPi,

Thats a fine '69 you got there. And a nice looking roomy workshop too rather my crummy lock-up
Dare i say that your '69 is commendable for Der Fudgemeister's fine '69 Trophy

Slow but steady progress. Cleaned up the front hubs a bit, not concours or anything, but they where really dirty in the beginning. Then I finally got the wheels from powder coater, it took almost 6 months. And yesterday I got discs from machinist. Better hurry to the garage to get them mounted back on, as I'm on winter holiday this week! Here are some before/after piccies.

I was planning on getting extra pair of A-arms as there's some for sale locally. There's '66 and '77 arms available. I tried to check the parts catalogue, and it seems that pre '68 are not correct to my '69. Are '77 arms usable without other modifications?

I would also like to add sway bars, as my car came originally without them, but I think they were on option list. At front it should be the 'throught the body' -type, but are there other differences at rear than the thickness throught the years?

Was it so unorthodox even concider using impact bumper parts that no one will ever talk to me anymore? 8)

How about those swaybars? Pelicans pages say that there was some change in the rear sway bar in '78?

Hi Tipi
the 77 arms should fit as far as I understand it as your car is a LWB, as for the front anti roll bar you could probably use that too but you might well need to get hold of the Ali cross member the 77 car would have, this too will bolt onto your car , indeed you could buy the whole lot and bolt it onto your car, its one of the benefits of a car that went the evolution route rather than radical redesign every couple of years..
yours Bill
by the way I am most impressed by your make over, good luck.

Hi Tipi
me again , did you sort out a set of calipers for your car and as for the anti roll bar question , the 77 arms won't have provision for the through the body anti roll bar or shouldn't have , they are more likely to take the later style that passed under the car as for a rear one you need the anti roll bar the brackets that weld to the car, quite cheap, and more importantly rear arms with the ball ended lugs attached to them.
Ta ta for now.

Cheers Dakota, I heard the same from another source too, so '77 A-arms should work for me, apart from anti roll bar brackets.

My friend machined another bleeder place to the other caliper.

I got brake stuff back from coater, cast stuff didn't turn out that good, the other stuff are spot on! Now I just would need time to assemble them, but I'm really busy with finishing touches on my house as the final inspection is coming soon. Damn, how fast 5 years has gone.

I also got some laser cut exhaust flanges for future header build. But I haven't found if there was tuning headers for 912 available back in the days. Maybe I'll try the Sebring style 8)

Hi Tipi!
(I write this in english so others understand as well  )

For '77 A-arms you need to remove sway bar bracket and weld old style bracket that is used with through-body sway bar. I'm using whole Carrera 3.2 front end with my car ('67) and I need to do that modification to A-arms.
And if you see any rear sway bar set up for sale locally (after you have got one), let me know. (I just missed one couple of weeks ago)

Boom, got the box back from the mechanic, refurbished for about £500 including labour, new 1st&2nd syncros and gaskets. I painted it flat black today with spraycan myself...

Seems that the front mount of the gearbox isn't correct. Today I tried to mount the box and spare engine I recently bought, but the engine is about an inch too far back. And then I checked my own engines rear mount, cooling tin and exhaust and realized that they all have been modified! Wouldn't it have been easier to modify just the front mount! Totally bizarre. So is that front mount from 915 box or what? Or are the rubber fixings wrong? I'll have to check the parts gatalogues tomorrow, now it's alredy half past one and I need to get up for work tomorrow... :|
