Barry
words do not describe the patience and skill that goes into this project. My hair is getting greyer the more pictures I see. I dont know whether there should be a nobel price for dedication but to call this "conversion" a privilege is definitely qualifying for it.
Jonathan
What a way to have a Carrera RS ey? By golly, I take my hat off for such dedication... this goes beyond the money aspect- this is simply incredible!

I have taken another look at the photos and am still amazed at the quality of metal work fabrication. (Yes I need to get out a bit more). Beautiful work. The only sad thing with doing such great work is when the car is finished, you will have nothing to show people of all the great pieces of repair work........."If you look here you'll see nothing...that whole area is a repair panel made from a flat piece of sheet metal honest!!!!
Can't wait to see the next photies, hurry up

Thanks for the compliments chaps, I still find the fabrication of repairs the most rewarding part.
BTW, I did try to get Jonathan just to laquer the car, but for some reason he did seem quite keen on paint

That is really beautiful work Barry, fair play mate. You are a lucky man Jonathan
Gotta love those Celettes. What a job on the A-post too, that car will drive like a champ now it's all straightened out.

time now for the last update in time for christmas and also to bring the project totaly up to date
I saw the finished painted shell over the weekend and fingers crossed it arives safe and sound with me this wednesday, which is almost 2 years to the day since I took delivery of her
Painting has been done by DC Coachworks, based in St Leonards on Sea, who have done a superb job, and complement the care and attention that Barry took with the panelwork, with an equal amount of adjustment, tweaking and blending in
first shot is the car as delivered to them, straight from barry
first stages were to strip all remaining panels and then skim filer where needed to maintain the panel joints but also to ensure a single smooth surface from panel to panel. As this is a black painted car its vital to take time at this stage
also had a bit of a job geting the rear quarters to fit. They are genuine parts from an RS Touring, but were in a bit of a state, needing new mounts, but they do look the part....finally
next was to mask the car before the high build primer coats
and then apply paint
to finaly see this stage of the project was realy fantastic, as I have never had the car in a single colour, so seeing the full body in one go was a good day
and finaly the black stuff, which was clear laquer over base coat, for extra durability and depth. Sould also be more stable a colour, less resistant to fading and scratching
Barry said for this project to be done properly it should end up like looking into an oil slick, just reflective and smooth
I recon it does that
now the rebuild starts, so no pressure, its just all up to me, and probably downhill from here......
happy christmas

cool
Just be carefull with those screwdrivers etc when re-assembling

I took me a month until I 'slipped' with a screwdriver when assembling my hotrod VW. I won't mention the time I was trial fitting my new seats and 'caught' the b-piller
It all adds to the cars chararcter & feeling of being handbuilt
