Yeeeowch......

It finally happened....just infront of the passenger horn grill. I have absolutely no idea how this happened. I didn't do it and it definitely didn't come from Darren's like this.

Oh well......apparently this is eminently fixable, "first one's on the house" How cool is that....but am feeling much more relaxed about the whole thing now...



So relaxed that I have actually put something back together on the car....yes, I have managed to get the fuel filler flap working. How's that for progress





But I have been making myself useful cleaning stuff. I now have clutch, speedo, & brake cables, throttle linkage, oil cooler pipes, and air blower & valves all beautifully clean.

Targa top has been taken apart and all glue removed from the frame. Slow but steady...

I think you need to save that Lackshift for stone chips!

Alan has lots of shiny bits waiting for you to fit…..best pull your finger out if you want to make CLM14!

Yes, it's not the best colour match is it....that's what happens when you panic....

Didn't know my stuff was ready, will have to go and get that next week. Exciting...

When I had my 72T done, I had the bodywork place leave the very shallow dent that was in the rear decklid so the car wasn't perfect. Best decision I made - only I ever noticed the dent, and the car wasn't -perfect-

A day after self-painting my 73T my 3 year old daughter, always inquizative, came into the tight one car garage to see my 'progress' and knocked the broom over. The handle stay hit the fresh paint/new Porsche rear wing with a gentle dent.

I see it every time I wash it and nobody else does...

The car certainly has patina now, 24 years later!

Needs a re-paint now but that dent will stay there.

.. I have the exact same soft dent in my rear wing from a broom handle operated by a child

Small progress......

I've been thinking about how to keep my original rear lights, they were in quite good nick, apart from the usual road grime and age. The reflectors were pants though. So I'm doing an experiment at the moment. Firstly to clean....going from this





To this





I've put a clear laquer on the outside, wire-brushed off all the old and oxidised stuff on the inside and then I'm going to give this stuff a go http://www.chromepaint.com/shop/liquid-chrome-aerosol/

Seems quite pricy, but looks pretty good on the product demos. Just working out what base I need to put on it (seems like I'll need high-build primer and black enamel-type base) And once I get that sorted, I'll give it a go and let you know the results.

Looks fantastic and it's one of those 'yes we're re-building now' moments. Even put on my NOS 911S badge that I found about 12 months ago, it's been wrapped in tissue-paper since then, so it's great to see it out. And it matches the other letters perfectly. The old one was a repro and the gold had faded off. Its good to see it back to it's former glory.

I even managed to wire up the deck-lid, so it's just waiting for the new number-plate lights to go in and that will officially be one bit of the car that is finished

Well it's been longer than I thought since the last update, it's been a crazy busy month...but today I finally got into the garage. And today it was the wiring loom. Have been putting this job off for ages, thinking it would be beyond me, but just had to get stuck in.

Fed the main loom from back to front, behind the cross-member, over the torsion-bar and then down the right hand side of the tunnel. Also did the same with the starter motor feed.



There is a boxed in section on the right hand side of the tunnel that provides the conduit for the loom. It was a bit tricky getting it through this section and it was full of media, so not the most friction-free environment. So I made a big 'needle' out of a couple of coat hangers and then tied some garden twine around the loom. This allowed me to push and pull at the same time and got the loom through.

Then it was into the boot, and using a wiring diagram and some photos I took before disassembly, wired the fuse box, put the live loop feed to the RHS battery behind the petrol tank and the RHS indicator and washer bottle feeds round the front of the car, just under the bonnet catch.

All in all, worked out well. Was surprised that I could actually do this myself. Just takes a bit of patience and the ability to decipher the wiring diagram.







Next job of course is to wire in the guages, but they're not back yet so will have to wait. This has been quite a watershed moment for me as I was worried about all those wires clogging up the walls of my garage - but now they're in. Feels like a good step forward with the rebuild....

Oh yes and I forgot to say, the bonnet is staying up all by itself - completely 'unpropped' for the first time in my ownership (ie 14 years!!!)

I invested in a pair of heavy duty bonnet struts from Typ911 and they are fantastic. If you have a droopy hood, get a pair, they're not that expensive (about £20 ea) and they take minutes to fit! My bonnet is heavy, it had to have a little care and filler to get it perfect - but these struts deal with it no problem.

Well that looks like its a proper step forward. Well done for getting stuck in. Remember it's just one step at a time.
