A nice sunny Saturday and a (very) late call to visit the seaside…..

…the guys at Canford Classics had been working late into the day to get my car finished; 8 o'clock Saturday evening collection, how's that for customer service!

…..the sun was getting low in the sky as we loaded up…

….and had long set by the time I got home, a chance to marvel at the quality of the absolutely fantastic work put in by Canford Classics…

...welcome home 2.4E!

There's still a few jobs to do, Alan has lent me a set of seats whilst my standard Pepita/Vinyl pair are being finished and although I was I thinking of leaving the sills bare I'll probably fit the S sill trims Alan has supplied etc etc..

….off to Redtek for my engine/gearbox fit on Tuesday, sort the geo and I'll soon be on the road!

…for now though I think I'll spend the rest of the weekend staring at cars in my garage…..

Is there a reason why you've only fitted one of the windscreen wipers at the moment?

Absolutely superb, Darren. Hopefully this time next Sunday you'll be on your way back from a 200 mile shakedown.

Are you going for a stick on front plate or original style bracket? Is that an original equipment outside temp gauge? Never seen one before.... My vote's for fitting the sill trims - will finish the external off very smartly, imo. Enjoy staring it for the rest of the weekend; I'd be pulling up a chair and opening a well earned beer.

Thank you for the kind comments chaps…the wiper is on it's way, standard front plate bracket and I will be fitting the sill trim although the sills are so flat, smooth, arrow straight and beautiful it does seem a shame to cover them up.

As for the Ambient Temperature gauge; it's a VDO item, date matched 11/72 exactly the same as all the other gauges, the earliest photos I have are from 1983 and it was present then before the car came to the UK. Everyone tells me it wasn't a factory option at the time although it looks made for the job as does the bracket that holds the relocated hazard warning switch….

….I'm guessing it was a dealer fit option from new, unless it was the previous German owner who took a lot of time and trouble to get it exactly right; maybe the same German owner that fitted the whale tail, SC mirrors, tombstone seats, rubber overriders etc!

The car looks gorgeous, if its sunny where you are I'd push out it in the sunshine, but a chair about 30 feet away(or far enough away to get a good view), open a beer, then sit back and watch the day go by!

…85 litre tank and original space saver…

…a space waiting to be filled!…

…original twin horns...

…some nice Canford Classics details…carpets set with the correct rubber backing…

…nice interior detail...

…love those Michelin's...

…even the centre tunnel rubber bungs are period perfect…

...managed to fit some essential stickers today….all by myself!

Going over the car today I can't describe how pleased I am with the quality of work and the level of detail Canford Classics have put in, there's still a fair few jobs to do (Alan has given me a list!

) although these amount to sorting out the correct screws and the like.

I was never looking for a concourse perfect car as this baby is going to be used...lots!…just something that's close to being period correct and that gets a nod of approval from those who know..…

…with the help of Canford Classics I'm hopefully getting pretty close!
