Which cars have you been to see so far ?
Would be helpful to know of the " usual suspect " cars you mentioned.
Average RS Tourings at £165k - £175k ??

So Steve, as the previous owner can you confirm the 'all correct RS panels fitted' that Maxted Page claim, how about the rear wings, can't tell from those pics?

As for the rear number plate light and a near side mirror.............

Hi. Slightly OT again .... what are people's view on the orange RS rep. Mouth watering spec and looks but is it really worth that much. What do you think would be a reasonable price / offer for it?

What do you think they would accept?

Hi Nigel,

I'm a bit wary of pointing at available cars and saying I didn't like that because.....especially as I know of two cars that I didn't want that were subsequently bought by a DDK'er and someone on PH. The reason I said 'usual suspects' was that I assumed a reasonable knowledge of what is currently publicly available on this site.

I've done a fair bit of ducking and diving now, so of the cars available that I know about, either I've seen them, or my brother-in -law (who is in London) has. I won't be buying any of those. I even have a spy in Sydney who knows of the CTS orange car. I have also have had a tremendous amount of info from DDK'ers through PM's. Most have asked not to be named, so OK.

Yep- the 165-175 quote comes from an insider (who shall remain nameless) who reckons that the scarcity of the top cars is driving the middle market: a lot of keen enthusiasts trying to get in on the 'RS' thing. I also heard this from another dealer about the 'next wave' of Tourings.

Strangely enough, the orange car is one that I initially ignored because it was a rep.

Nigel I don't know enough to make this stuff up, all the things I quote have been said or reported to me.

I've pm'd Steve about this car, if he ok's it I'll tell about the price. But; it's a lot less than an RS for real. A lot less.

I do take your point about the reps, trouble is I'm now sitting on two stools here. I truly can't ignore the 'real' ones and am pretty sure that I won't. But lotherin' that orange car around the Nurburgring or such, well it gets a chap moist!

Hi Mike, I didn't carry out the conversion myself so can't vouch for panels other than to say they were all steel. The conversion itself was carried out some time ago and I was told by Neil Bainbridge but there was no paperwork to back this up.

The only frustratingly incorrect 'bits' that I know of are, as you pointed out, the number plate lights, a nearside mirror (correct style but shouldn't be there) and don't forget those rubber bonnet straps. All things that would have been addressed had I kept the car.

Generally, I'd just like to point out that I no longer have an affiliation with this car other than being the previous owner but I'm very happy to answer any questions that I can.

I think the '73 RS market could be treacherous waters at the moment.
The danger here is of dealers talking up a volatile market.
IIRC the RST reached around £100k in the '89 boom period
then fell back to as low as £25k.
The Bonhams RST at £222,000 had racing history but even so
that was a remarkable price.
RSLs are now fetching over £200k as Vic has mentioned.
As an aside the Ferrari Dino used to be worth twice an RST ,
now that situation is reversed.
The effect of all this has caused a significant increase in the value of the 911S and Carrera 2.7.
The number of enthusiasts who can afford these prices must surely be limited. If investors pile in then the market can quickly become unstable.

I think some people are using money that might have been thrown at a new Porsche ... and in their cases it could make sense

as an example :

You could run this :

'57 reg Porsche 911 turbo - Contract hire = £ 1900 + VAT / month


or instead think why waste all that cash when they could do this, an A4 as a run about / commute car + a weekend toy:

Audi A4 - contract hire = £ 420 + VAT / month

This would save me £ 1480 + VAT / month

Over 3 years this saves me £ 53280 +VAT

For those getting sick of depreciation / having the latest toys it is easy to find the money to buy a very nice 2.4S . After 3 years the 2.4S is paid for, shouldn't depreciate so another A4 could be leased & another toy bought or you could go back to a brand new turbo & have the S in the garage.



Just an example that potentially there are plenty of people out there that could afford these prices if they wanted to .


For me, I could never think about even trying to afford monthly payments on a 911 turbo
