Ah great thank Gary.
There must be some commercially available seals that would do a better job. When I get a minute I might have a look - I’ve taken some measurements

I’ve ordered a couple of small round seals (in 2 sizes) from seals direct so I’ll see what they are like when they arrive

Hi Mark
Same as Gary….i sliced my seals to help them fit…if the ones you have ordered aren’t quite right try Baines web site

Am I right in thinking the seal has a slot all the way around, which clips over the edge of the light unit? That's just going from memory. I can imagine that would be easy to miss, in which case you might have too much rubber under the lens. It's been a couple of years since I fitted mine.

Rob - Yes there is a groove and no it hasn’t slipped out of the groove - it’s just that the rubber is too thick. It’s sits ok now I’ve sliced it - as others have
My guess is that the original rubber was a lot softer and would compress, and the repro stuff is harder and won’t
Thanks JP - I’ll wait and see how I get on with the ones I’ve ordered and post results here

That sounds legit because I bought a pair and they were so soft it's almost foamy, not hard rubber at all.

Another slight diversion….
When I did the interior I replaced the standard light switches/knobs with ones from somewhere - rennline I think. I wanted something a bit different. They were well made but I’ve never been happy with them
I found them just a bit too big (diameter-wise)
So for about a year now I’ve been wondering if i could improve them - maybe cut them down a bit in the lathe - and ideally with a bit of knurling involved.
So today I thought I’d have a go
I started with the cigarette lighter because I never really use that as I’ve always got a phone charger plugged into the socket, so if I f*cked it up then it wouldn’t be a great loss.
So I turned it down, a bit of knurling and ended up with this
Overall I’m pretty pleased with it. The biggest problem was that it wasn’t straight - the mounting hole in then back wasn’t central - so the whole thing was a bit skewiff. You can see it in the above picture that the log on the top is no longer central.
Even with that problem I like the look. When I chucked up the others ones though luckily they were all much better and after a while I ended up with this
And back in the dash
I’m pretty pleased with them. I like the knurling and they feel better than previously and a better size. I think overall I would prefer them all-black so I’m going to look into anodizing them. How hard can it be?

Love a bit of knurling

I’d leave them bare, makes it stand out and not look like a generic plastic knob

^^ Agree^^
The knurl will tarnish over time and go grey from bright fresh cut.

Also agree, bare metal and black, it matches the radio controls.
They look great .
