FYI - when you wind the adjuster past the contact point you are opening the valve, so the increase in tightness you can feel is the pressure of the valve spring against the adjuster.

Fantastic news Sladey. I was told years ago that the correct valve and rocker adjustments are crucial and will effect power output on a 3.2 so now should be performing better than before and car was quick then.

I think you adjusted the valves when the engine was out, the intake valve is not too tight on number two so it is not getting enough air in.

Brilliant! Got there in the end and just a process of elimination, albeit with a lot of new parts! It will probably run better than ever now, get out there now and put some miles on it.

Great news. The reason the screw was stopping (but still turns) is because the nut around it has come back into contact with the rocker again. If you back the nut off a bit more, you get a better feel of whether you're incontact with the valve/cam.

If you are unsure whether you are at TDC at the right part of the cam cycle….
Just adjust the tappets at TDC, then rotate the engine 360 degrees. If one tappet is now loose you got it wrong the first time so readjust & do the other cylinders in the correct sequence.

Hence why I think I got a couple of them way out on the original adjustment

Just FYI this is the top of the rennline tool



You pick any one of the 3 plain lines and move the brass marker in line with that. Then you turn the dial anti-clockwise until the next 0.1mm marker is in line with it. This is what I meant by how small the gap is - it’s about a 10th of a turn.
