Presume that’s pothole damage then mark on your alloy. I’ve just knackered 2 on the Taycan after hitting a pothole, buckled them.

Hi Mark, interested in your throttle linkage age/mileage (ie the car) as I’m sure mine is also quietly sitting there wearing away? I didn’t check it last time I had the engine out, oops!

That old throttle rod /bar looks like it could have come off my old car,

Two steps forward one step back……

OK so I drove up to collect the ECU and chatted to David. he said that it had blown something (a resistor?) and effectively that had acted as a fuse and saved the rest of the board. He replace the blown part and a few other things that were worth doing while he was in there.

I then had an excited drive back down.

Put it in and it fired up straight away.

Fantastic!

However, it was running like a dog. Rough as anything and if I let it idle then it died. It seemed lumpy and out of balance - there was vibration there that isn’t normal.

I reached into my toolkit and pulled out an Italian tune-up. Drove it down the road to see if it cleared. It didn’t but was better at higher revs. eventually I came to the conclusion that it was running on 5 cylinders

Drove it back into the garage, popped the engine lid and started it again - quickly running round to blip the throttle from inside the engine bay. I thought maybe I hadn’t reconnected one of the injector plugs.

I tried all of them and they all seemed secure. With the engine running I disconnected plug 1 - no change in revs at all. Then I tried number 2 , 3, 4, and 5 all one after the other - each time there was no change in revs which surprised me as I thought revs were meant to die when you disconnected one.

I went to pull off number 6 but couldn’t get it off. however it also felt wet and I realised that there was fuel all over injector No. 6

So I’m thinking now that possibly injector No. 6 is blocked which is causing it to run on 5 cylinders. Any thoughts on that diagnosis.

I’ve texted David from Canems to let him know and just to check that he didn’t replace the engine map that was on the ECU (I’ve got a backup of the one that was in there)

I’m now due to be be away (climbing Snowden!) or in meetings until next Monday night so won’t have a chance to try anything until then. I was thinking pull that injector and give it a good clean and try again

It’s a good start Mark. A mere misfire won’t stop you now.

If I were you I’d be buying a set (or at least a couple) of injectors before you go mountain climbing. Also possibly some o rings for the connection to the rail.

it actually snapped further up the shaft about 5 years ago when Centre Gravity were doing a road test after setting up the suspension. They drilled and welded a repair to get me back on the road and it’s been fine since but I didn’t want to take the risk much longer with that thing metal

Also can you check the voltage at that injector just to make sure it’s getting a signal to open?

Great minds - I’ve just ordered a new injector - Design 911’s eBay show has it for £106 but their website (1 number different on the part number) is £264. However both say they fit carrera 3.2 84-89

I’m not doing that now as I’m knackered. Also I checked all the wiring the other day and also also the signal goes to all 3 injectors simultaneously. And also also also that wouldn’t explain the leaking fuel at that injector

Old cars, gotta love ‘em!

Almost there Mark, keep at it.

Worth double checking the parts you removed when taking off the inlet manifolds, check for air leaks etc.
