Time for some updates ...

In the video link of the engine starting up for the first time posted above, the 'keen-eyed' among you may have noticed that the generator warning light appeared to be staying on.

In fact, the light came on with the ignition & went out again as the revs increased (as it should) but when the ignition switch was turned off, the engine continued to run & the charge light came on again & stayed on - it seemed as though a small current was feeding back through the charge light circuit & feeding the ignition system.

As a reminder, my engine is fitted with twin MSD spark boxes feeding twin Blaster coils & a quick search on Pelican revealed that this was a known problem (& in fact is outlined in MSD's instruction manual) & is easily rectified (excuse the pun!) by the addition of a small diode placed in the warning lamp circuit - thoughtfully included (but forgotten about by me!) by MSD in their original packaging.

It also transpired that one of the 2 Bosch dash pull switches used to isolate the individual ignition circuits was faulty such that only one set of plugs was firing in the video clip.

With both sets of plugs now firing the engine is much more responsive & reacts immediately to even slight movements of the throttle pedal - aided no doubt in no small way by the lightweight 906-style flywheel & aluminium pressure plate...

Front & rear suspension/brakes are installed & the car is resting on its wheels & tyres for the first time :

At this stage, I've fitted the 6in & 7in steels with Axon CR6ZZ tyres - the other (steel/alloy) wheels/Dunlop Race tyres will be kept for 'special' occasions !

The suspension has only been set up 'approximately' at the moment so settings have yet to be fine tuned.

Up front the underbonnet area is more or less 'done' - fuel filler neck/cap installed:



- the filler neck is attached to the tank with aircraft grade button-headed machine screws/locknuts rather than the original rivets so I'm going to fill the hexangonal recesses in the heads then paint them to mimic the originals more closely ( )

I haven't decided whether to do anything with the cap itself or leave it 'as is' .



As you can see in the above photo, the screen seal is still the all-black one - I've now modified another seal by my patented method of attaching a white latex strip - don't know how this will fare at the 'corners' ... we'll have to wait & see





Completing the front end are the brake/clutch fluid reservoirs, fuel pump & spare wheel - still leaving enough romm for a small holdall & a few tools/jack

I posted a picture of the aluminium dry sump oil tank earlier in this thread & it's beautifully fabricated but ....... it featured a filler cap that looks far too modern:



Whilst modifying the bodywork of his next customer's car to the later-style (which, amongst other differences, featured an external oil filler) Barrie discovered that a std 911 oil cap could be modified to fit, so I aquired a suitable (used) one & removed the internals:





- it turns out that the 3 'prongs' on the 911 cap match the spacing of the indents on the new aluminium cap exactly so it's just a case of epoxying the old to the new (not permanently attached yet in this picture);
