Re: 912 outlaw project
My version of Lightweight floor mats.
Paper patterns cut...
I used some of the left over carpet from the Roof and Door linings...
...removed the cheap backing, and once again gained some thumb blisters!
Jumped onto the overlock machine for a cut and trim finish, the machine and needle are used to thinner material passing through but the outcome is good and tight.
Final fit is nice and does not move around, but I may use some velcro underneath in afew key areas.

Re: 912 outlaw project
Finally fitted the Oil tank
The Body is a '68 and therefore has the pressing for an early style tank...
...however on high recommendation I decided to fit a later tank. So before I started cutting and shaping a hole I needed a template to work from. DDK to the rescue! Many thanks to Darren ( Darren65 ) for coming up trumps with a template that he made from his car.
I made a duplicate just in case and set about cutting and grinding...
...30 minutes later I was left with a hole...
The only problem is that the pressings for the earlier tank don't really line up with the hole for the later tank. So some of the chamfers and bevels are still present...
...so alittle hammer and dolly work is required. With the tank in and out to ensure a tight fit with the seal.
The pressing for the early filler pipe requires abit more force. So after afew skinned knuckles trying to hammer from inside the arch, some lateral thinking was required to pull the depression out.
Alittle bit more tapping and it fits!
and because of the painting method I don't mind afew scratches, they can easily be sanded over and touched up
I need to make another fixing bracket ( attaches to bumper support bracket ) and the mesh screen to protect the tank, but another job done.

Re: 912 outlaw project
Good work Chris. There's the big seal that goes around that as well (which is a bit of a bugger to fit)- but if Darren's taken the shape from his hole (!) that will be spot on

Re: 912 outlaw project
Cheers Mark...I fitted the tank with the seal in place to avoid any issues. Darren's (cough) hole was abit small...but with alittle bit of adjustment it now fits perfectly.

Re: 912 outlaw project
My hole's been worked on a bit now so everything slides in and out quite sweetly
Glad to know the template worked.

Re: 912 outlaw project
I thought Reaming with a rusty tapered type was only used at work (on me)?
The rubber seal is a swine to fit and on my 73T makes fitting a new filter a chore. Are you sealing with silicon or similar?

Re: 912 outlaw project
I would have covered all the oil tank openings ... and STILL cleaned out the tank after (or maybe it's a scrap tank ??)
... each to their own .........

Royal Enfield .. still in India
GL 1800 Tour DCT, for pleasure / Fantic 240 Professional - play
Rally 911 (1966) build parked for a while
Rally 928 (work started again - inc serious weight loss programe !)
.... and now another VW Up GTI owner.

Re: 912 outlaw project
No cutting or grinding took place with the tank in situ, just some light tapping.Cortina wrote:I would have covered all the oil tank openings ... and STILL cleaned out the tank after (or maybe it's a scrap tank ??)

Re: 912 outlaw project
Chris gotta love the work and attitude. You thought about making 'lwt' rubber mats?
Been small delay on the lock face due to printing error. Take 2 complete soon.
Cheers michel

Thanks Michel, I do have a big sheet of rubber (normally seen on the outsole of sneakers) as a backup option.michel wrote:Chris gotta love the work and attitude. You thought about making 'lwt' rubber mats?

Re: 912 outlaw project
On god knows whatever day we are on now, he said.....
LET THERE BE LIGHT
and there was...
Ok its only a sidelight but its a good start. The wiring is being fitted in situ, just laid out in its basic form at the moment and then tidied up later...
...but proof that battery to blade fuse to ignition to toggle switch to light works
I will update with details of the wiring diagram and loom soon, as it is a work of art. I can't take credit for it though, its been beautifully created by my friend Phil, or as I now call him Sparky Smith.
Cheers
Chris
