James is referring to the fact that in 10 years of ownership I had never even taken a wheel off my car I so few skills.... Bit different now....

And I was talking to John about first Northern trip only last night, we think that we might recreate the lakes - dales run that we did after my engine re-build....remember this? You up for a re-run? Both cars have had a bit of attention since then....

Some wonderful comments chaps, I'll pass these on to Rich the painter who has done the work where they'll be very much appreciated.

I feel the urge to heap some praise on this car, as I do with all the great restorations posted on this site, although it feels a little awkward due to my involvement in the project. But just so you know I'm not touting for work I've decided that I'm not taking on any more early 911 bare shell repaints (bar my own and one I'd already promised to do); as much as I love seeing these cars come back to life it's just too much pressure on the one guy that does 100% of the work especially as he also manages the bodyshop.

Anyway, I hope you don't mind a few more photos Richard…

The colour of this car is wonderful and looks amazing in all different lights. In the sun it's just dazzling…



I particularly like the detail under the hood especially now the wings are back on, I think this has been captured perfectly and looks like the wings were painted in situ (btw, correct 'K' bolts are to be fitted)…



When applying the black we've been careful not to 'over-do' it and have tried to capture exactly how it was done at the factory. I have been questioned if we really have got the details right, all I can do is point to the many, many reference sources of original unrestored cars we've looked at as a guide.
As much as the shiny exterior, I love the areas of over-spray, the mixing of green, black and underseal and the areas that haven't been painted. None of these places will be seen when the car is finished and fitted up but they're still there ……

If you ask Rich the painter about the quality of the final finish he'll tell you that this couldn't have been achieved without a perfect shell to start with and he's full of admiration to the quality of work Barry Carter put in before him. It's taken two very talented people to get to this stage….





Richard's reaction to seeing his car on Friday was worth all the effort that's gone into this project. He seemed pretty happy…



The people that have worked on this car have done an amazing job, I've seen cars that are equally as good although doubt if I've seen better.

Some people might think this has been a cheque book restoration for Richard but they'd be wrong - Richard has put in countless hours and a lot of emotion into this project and fair play to him for being particular and knowing exactly what he wanted to achieve - the end result will definitely be one of the best 2.2S Targas anywhere.

Well done that man!

By the way Paul - I'm not sure you know the inspiration that I got from your Turkis Blue thread when I first started on the forum - it was that one that started me on the route of detail, detail, detail.....and then I found the Mike M, Andy and John M threads, each of which added to the insatiable desire to get it right....

But it did start with Turkis....
