Crazy people , theres a magnificent Chartreuse 2.7 rs here , spent a lot of its time in Switzerland, was white for a while then reverted to chartreuse and sold to an Englishman i know well...............now pretty much as it was intended .....................Hey, as long as people drive them for what they were the enjoyment is theres to have .............

It's easy to justify cashing in your life insurance to buy an old 911.just cough up the first payment on another policy, sit in the driving seat and congratulate yourself on your wisdom.The worst thing that could happen is for a few big domestic bills to arrive at once.Then you would have to think about selling the 911,pointing out sagely that you looked on it solely as a rolling roof fund,if the roof of your house falls in, the car can pay: it's value keeps pase with inflation, which means it will always be worth more than the roof,and it would'nt take more than 10 minutes to sell.-Chris Harvey-Supercar Classics-jan 1988. mike.

James! They're not that bad, in a steroid-assisted kind of way!

No, they do look fantastic, but I'm not so easily swayed from the 2.7 RS, my first love and still the best IMHO!

But thanks for the pics. Spode question again James, but what is the Mexborough collection? Is it a museum? Are those cars in the pics for sale? Another thing Porsche I wasn't aware of.

Many thanks for putting up the pic of your car, and does it look good! I always think that I prefer the red graphics with white, but every time I see a white with blue one I'm pulled back by their appearance and revise my opinion. Don't know why I bother with the erroneous thought in the first place!

Hi NigelC210,

I remember reading this when it first came out! I have never yet read a test with the 2.7RS in it where the tester(s) have not come out the other side raving about it, or at the very least with huge respect.

I know that there's better and faster, but I just think that Porsche got 'it' so right with the 2.7RS, never bettered for me.

I see where you are coming from Vic, but as a writer I have had many script situations where the Director/Actors will change a script simply because they can, then come back to you later for you to fix it. I'm not saying that my scripts are works of art, but I wouldn't have submitted them if I hadn't thought they were finished! So, leave those Rs's as they were born! IMHO anyway!

Lord Mexborough lives about 15 miles away from me & has a very nice private car collection based at his house ( which its self is beautiful )

I arranged for DDK to visit in 2006 when i organised the 2nd DDK Northern Event.

Here is his 'red' room

I think he has had a bit of a clear out recently as I'm sure some of the Ferraris have been sold

Hi Mike,

Is this a ref to my 'how do you justify the cost' question? I think so, but it's a bit of an obscure quote and I'm not getting the context very well. Could you elaborate a bit more please?

Who needs a house! Just fit a campbed, a fridge and a phone with broadband and I'd live in there!

This is why I started this thread; so that I could learn the nuggets of real wisdom! Not those silly old 'paint colour has no effect on speed' bores, I believe you PaulyB and have adjusted my mindset accordingly!

Blue ones are faster than the Red: Just like Red Ducatis are faster than the black or yellow ones, any fule kno that!

It was mentioned to me recently, on another forum, that this summer may well see some of the most famous Lightweight's and Tourings come on the market again. This was suggested by someone who knows a lot of the owners of said cars (someone in the PCGB), and he said that more than a few of them had mentioned 'cashing in their pension funds' this year as retirement loomed and a life of ease suited them better.

What interests me about this is the effect it will have on prices. Admitted, it has yet to happen, but would a 'glut' of top L/W RS's cause a feeding frenzy, or would buyers back off? I know how far I'm prepared to go, and I know that it won't be the other side of 250k, could this happen? Come on, there's a lot of you know a lot more than I do about this? You can always PM if it's too sensitive, you all know by now that I won't tell.
