Stunning, I love 911s in vibrant colours. Walking through a carpark earlier today, it felt like I was in a B&W movie!

I have some little items on my snagging list but - on the whole - it's been a wonderful result.
And largely thanks to Nick Moss. Well done Nick.

I will get around to posting some detail shots when I get a chance.
I've also got a session booked in August at Centre Gravity so the ride height will get set more accurately.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm pleased with the colour too.
But it is bright. When you drive around you realise that compared to many modern cars it stands out.
Certainly gets plenty of attention. It makes people smile and I like that.
Oh, and it attracts a lot of insects too....

Time to update things after my shakedown miles touring France.
I went to Le Mans without door pockets fitted as I was awaiting some plastic fixings.
They've long been NLA but recently have been manufactured which was excellent news.
So, with the pockets already recovered and all the fittings in place we could set about installation.

The door pockets are different to those fitted to the '69-'73 cars but - typically for the '74 & '75 cars - are also slightly different to later bins (produced right up to '93).
They have a lip along the bottom edge that is shallower than later versions and there's no lip down the sides.
They should be covered in vinyl (not carpet).

I discovered one door pocket fitted a treat, the other less so.
It was a little warped and oversize in places.
No need to explain all the grief involved in trimming and re-shaping but suffice to say all is now well and the interior complete.

All these old Porsche’s leak oil, don’t they?
I mean, magnesium cases, expanding & contracting, you can’t keep them dry.
I’d expect a few drips on the deck.

So, imagine my surprise when I first got my car.
No drips. Nothing.
Move the car and be greeted with an unmarked floor.
I couldn’t quite believe it. I even remarked upon it to my wife saying it was testament to a well built engine.

Well, that obviously enraged the Porsche Gods.
So, when I parked up on the Mulsanne Chicane I discovered a leak.
It proved to be coming from the oil tank and not the engine.
Nick Moss was present and ‘nipped’ up the connections (in case it was a loose union) but the drip continued.
However, it was very minor so I kept an eye on it and Nick pledged to check it out upon my return.

Early911 removed the old tank and discovered a ‘pin hole’ leak.
It seems the original tank had rusted through in one area.
So, Nick fitted a later secondhand tank whilst I could get the original brazed up.

The leaking tank was cleaned up before the repairs but the corrosion proved to be rather more extensive than predicted.
It was looking ready to rust through all over the place.
Sadly it was not worth the costs or repair, nor the risk of further deterioration.
40 years had taken its toll.

Needless to say Porsche will sell you a nice new tank.
Needless to say it is expensive.
Needless to say, you need to ‘backdate’ it.

The newer tanks have a yellow plastic filler cap (screw-on).
The tanks correct for ’74 have the earlier metal cap (bayonet).
So my new Porsche tank is having the original filler spout & cap fitted to it.
And then we’ll switch it back into the car and I’ll hopefully be leak free again.

Rewinding the story back a little, you may recollect that - when he built the car - I’d asked Nick to set the vehicle low.
I thought it would look better that way.

The settings weren’t precise and it wouldn’t matter because I planned to visit Center Gravity and get things sorted properly.
However, I’d encountered issues with the ride height (i.e. grounding) and that would need a remedy.
So, I set about ‘bedding in’ the new suspension components before approaching Chris Franklin up in Atherstone.
The car had already covered nearly 2,000 miles before going up on the ramps.
