Also what are people's thoughts on drive shafts? In my box of bits taken off are later units. Should I consider this a sensible upgrade or should I pursue period correct? Pretty much all else on car is original.
Thoughts ?

Carbs - Chris at Fenn Lane. Drive shafts, well, keep it standard - they are tough enough for most uses.
Just my tuppence
You will go through the 'How many more bits to do!!' phase. I did, am doing and will for a while yet!
Keep the faith

So many bolts Ian..... And how did they all get in the same bag?
I think someone would make a fortune with a labelled OEM bolt restoration kit!

Turn signal / indicators question, what was the correct combination of surround for the lens for model year 1968? Some have suggested this was black rather than sliver?
Thanks Rich

It was chrome until the early '70's Rich. They weren't black until then.

To elaborate a little on Ian's answer - on swb models the 'rim' around the lens was part of the metal lamp housing itself (ie not part of the lens) & was chromed.
The lwb models had easily replaceable separate lenses with either a silver rim ('69-'72) or black rim ('73-on).

What have people used to secure/glue replacement lens into housing?

Re: So it started with an MOT.... in 2012
It's many years since I last did that job so there may be more suitable techniques used now but I used an electric soldering iron to melt the tabs over at the back of the housing & sealed any gaps between the lens & housing on the front with a thin bead of clear silicon.

Re: So it started with an MOT.... in 2012
Hi has anyone been through the nuts and bolts required for restoration replacement?
Eg
Transmission tunnel 701
M6x10#2
M6 Spring washer #2
M8x15#3
M8 Lock washer #3
M8x32#1
M8 lock washer #1
M8 nut#1
If not I am about to have a go for 1968 swb.
Plan is to figure out ball park quantities of bolts required (eg 88 M8x1x25 ) , and then have project packs for each section of the rebuild.
Can someone confirm if all fasteners are yellow zinc or if there are bolts with other coating for interior or for fixing panels?
Help appreciated as ever
Rich

You might find this post helpful if you haven't seen it Rich.

Be aware that cadmium was not licenced in Germany in the early days but not sure if it was by 1968. Many parts were clear zinc plated but there are a number of different finishes (detailed on the item description in the parts catalogue).
Cheers
