A couple of my friends did some consultation work on this for the clothes and the music . Also managed to blag my way in to a bit of filming they did at a local club .

There's been a couple of Northern Soul based films done already but I've got to say that this one really nails it . I've already seen the film at a preview but I'm looking forward to seeing it again on a big screen next Thursday with a few of my mates .
Where ? In Wigan of course !

Keep the faith ....

BTW there's a very good companion book out as well as a DVD release tomorow .

Very good documentary from BBC4 on the iplayer for a few more days ( although most of the footage is a rehash from the famous seventies itv doc )

I saw the film with Ian on Sunday and I really loved it. I've actually enjoyed it more looking back on it and I fancy seeing it again.

I thought it was losing its way for a bit, and was confused by the fact that some of the minor characters looked like each other.

The two main actors were great, the recreation of the era brilliantly done and the dance scenes were great. Really it's a nice 'coming of age' movie but the nostalgia and music adds another dimension.

It's hard to believe DJs were able to cover up a single so no-one would know what it was - so the only way to hear it would be to come to their gigs. It's an almost inconceivable concept when looking back from an era when everything is instantly "lookupable"

Yesterday I downloaded the night by franki valli- I've listened to it about 20 times now

Glad you enjoyed it Mark .
As you say the story's pretty good but it's the music and the atmosphere that gets you .
I think it really recreates well the feel of walking into the club and hearing that 4/4 beat for the first time . Still makes the hair stand up on my neck even now .

If you fancy a bit of further listening there's loads of compilations out there but a good starting point is "This is Northern Soul Vol 1+2 "

Was sent this ski video, which is pretty cool, and the the accompanying can't seem to get the tune out of my head.

The band are apparently called : First Aid kit.

….. not sure it's something DJ Russ would have on his playlist though. :-)
