No rush on the carbs at the moment as my cars away on holiday
I'll pick them up in the next few weeks if that's ok.

No probs Matt.

Started the Lola from cold again this afternoon.

2 good prods and started churning over. Not to happy at that and spat/poped a lot but fonally fired. I think it could be very easy to flood this engine.

Soon settled to a even tick-over though sounded a bit of a 4 cylinder flat 6, BUT, no bangs etc despite 5 mins of warm-up and seems ok on throttle blipping.

Seems like we have a runner.

Graham, just re-read this fantastic thread, a great testament to a man doing all the work himself!
Well done and good luck for your forthcoming events 8)

Thank you for the kind words, especially as you are so skilled! I need all the encouragement I can get at the moment. :?

Sat in a friend's Chevron B8 at Silverstone today...that did me NO GOOD AT ALL.

Such a fab car and built like a jewel. Mind you, about as strong a a piece of jewelry too. The tubes are very light (esp the ones over your head..)

However, the roof/ screen surround/ dash board is a one oiece moulding, and could just be what i want to convert the Lola open body to closed coupe....I'm getting bored now waiting for the hillclimb to arrive, so after some simple measurements, I'll see it it might (bolt-on) fit.

Trish said today I could have some new PMO's!

So: PMO or Jenvy throttle bodies....

You must have been a VERY good boy! :P

Get them quickly before the £ drops to $1.25

Cheers!

JW

PS - might be worth asking Crispin if he remembers the spec of the 46mm Webers.....

+ PMO:

Use my existing fuel system
Use my manifolds/filters
Easy to tune
Look 'period'
Run great so i've read.

- PMO:

£3K less anything i can get for my webers
$ to the £ is falling
Timescales to get a pair

+ Jenvy:

Advanced technology
UK manufacture (in fact 10 miles from where I live)
Mappable ECU (if you know the right mapper)
Stable when done

- Jenvy:

£3K less weber value
Need new high pressure system and return to tank (another £100)
Needs specialist mapping
New filters, another £150
Time to engineer due to flat fan i have in the way.

:drunken:
Time to fit despite there being a 3.2 version

Go for the Jenvey option and iron out all the bugs before I save enough for a pair
Will they do a deal on 2 pairs :?:
Can you give me some hints on how to get Rachel to say yes? To the throttle bodies that is

First you need to be married for 32 years.
Second you need to have children who are independent of mum n dad
Third you have to be a real misery when you don't get your own way (you have to practice at this for about 32 years on the Key Person)

I wont rush into this.

1
I'll have a go at drilling the errant carb, nothing to loose.
2
Wait for the dollar to rise above 1.6 ( )
3
Take the car to Jenvey for an opinion for fitting.
I forgot to say above that you need to sensor the engine with crank fire, oil temperature etc, all a bit fiddly to do in the racing season, but ok this Xmas

The simplicity of the PMO's is very appleaing, but the tech challenge of the Jenvey's is also attactive!

I hope to get through the 2010 season as I am. Cold start is a pain, but that is down to learning the engine. The accelleration pump sure throws it out.

Just been thinking about this ,I read this thread every day and love your build.Heres my car on PMOs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PS6JnSH ... r_embedded
Here it is with much wilder cams on EFI,night and day but if it was a dedicated hill climb car I would go PMO ,far cheaper and easier to fit

what EFI, ECU and cams are you running Mr P? Do you know what the change of cams and the change to EFI did to your peak power?

Thanks
GRaham

Getting realy bored waiting for the first event (in 2 weeks time now) so my mind and welder has done a few things.

In an effort to make the car far more confortable to drive for the 40 seconds i actually 'race' the thing, I have re-set the steering wheel position. This has resulted in a far better 'ape-hanging' grip on the wheel but also the wheel is tilted over to the centre of the car due to the weird rack in the car (non Lola spec).

After someone actually responding to me on the S2000 site (where I'm known as The Butcher) the Lola spec is a Mk1 Escort and LHD.(!)

Oddly I have bought a new one for all of £99 deliverd off Ebay. When fitted the steering shaft will be much more in-line in comparison. A job for the summer if i can wait that long.

Also, at a hillclimb you have to remove the body to expose the chassis for scutineering which is a pain as it sure takes up a lot of space.
I decided to make the rear clam hinge back on a new frame of tubes. After a fight which i semi won with a reluctant MIG welder, all is done.

Woke the trusty 911 up last sunday after going into my new Carcoon in the garden in October.

Re-charged the 8 year old batteries, turned the key and Vrrummm, straight onto 6 cylinders and a rock steady 1000 rpm....

Sometimes I wonder why I bother with this Lola!

Hope you don't try and start it with that "bonnet stay" in place, Graham :)

Is that heat resistant or noise reduction matting you have stuck to the underside of the rear section?

Getting ready for my first sprint on Saturday, so I'll beat you the the beam by a week :bigsmurf:
