Door glasses almost finished... ran out of nut and bolts

so will be finished 'later'
Now started on the electrical tidy up.
#1 problem - number plate lights keep blowing fuse #7 (5A is the right size, tried up to 16A and it still blows that, must be a dead short somewhere?)
#2 problem - Alternator light now on continuously, not tested yet and don't really know where to start!
#3 problem - tacho not receiving signal (tacho has been tested and is known to work, it's currently working in the Rep whilst that tacho is repaired)
#4 problem - there's quite a few spare/unused wires/connectors loose around the car but need to identify the colours (being colour blind is not helping!). Could be lucky here, both my T and the Rep are the same model years so I could have direct comparisons
#5 problem - hazard light switch works 'sometimes'. Don't really need this, is it legal to remove it on a '72 car?
#6 problem - found a loose (unconnected) red/white wire in the engine bay pointing straight at fuse #1 in the engine bay fuse box, so I stuck it into fuse #1 terminal. Can't find this wire on the wiring diagrams I have. Engine works with or without this connection.
I get the feeling that all this is going to be tedious and take some time to sort

hazard switch .. if it's not there it can't be tested ( not required for our cars ... eg my Italian car never had them fitted from the factory anyway )

Mick - if you take some digital pictures showing the location/colour of the spare wires & post them here, it should be easy for one of us to identify what (if anything) they should be connected to. For example there will be a number of 'spare' wires in the engine compartment as the car was originally equipped with mfi & those wires will no longer be needed.
Regarding the blowing fuse (rear no plate lights), I would trace the wiring back & see if the insulation is damaged & allowing the 'power feed' wire to short out - eg where they're clipped to the left hand engine lid hinge.

Thanks Andy.
I've solved the No plate lights - 'someone' had used a longer self-tapper as a fixing screw for one of the units and it just touching the live feed

. Traced the wiring right through bit by bit and it all worked OK until I fixed the lights to the lid

. No suitable screws to hand, so that's another job to finish 'later'.
I'd already concluded that a lot of the 'spare' wiring was for MFI, under-lid lights etc.
All in all a fruitful day I think.
Alternator next...

Mick, could do with sourcing leather belt blanks,to make up spare wheel straps. Could you tell me where you sourced leather blanks from, and what length they came in?
Thanks in advance.

If Mick can't help with the belts then my leather supplier I use for the straps would probably be able to make up anything you are after.

Dougie - bit of luck really. Was wondering through a local Arndale shopping centre just before last Christmas (us pensioners have to keep warm somehow

) and there was a guy making leather belts 'while you wait'. Managed to persuade him to sell me a couple of blanks. Spent the last few weeks studiously massaging the leather whilst watching TV to get it supple without adding any leather 'food'. They were about 4ft long. All they need now is use and some proper oil stains.
Maybe Gary can get you some 'blanks'? Or maybe you want them finished?

Sounds like you`re turning out a quality product there Mick. I presume the degree of suppleness can be adjusted by programme content.
